We’ve created the self-regarding allegedly erudite child-molesting monsters from Vladimir Nabokov’s novel “Don’t Create The Self-Regarding Allegedly Erudite Child-Molesting Monster”
Not going to repost the images, but the first few feature the first paragraph of Lolita written in ink on the skin of a woman (or girl, impossible to tell)

Dear Republicans,

No one has ever asked you to apologize for being white. They have asked you to apologize for being racist.

"Why did God let Trump be president?"

He gave us two thousand years advance warning of the antichrist, made him the individual with the most readily accessible, up-to-date public information about his multiple shortcomings ever, and gave us a mulligan the first time.

We were given an out.

There is quite a lot of polsci that finds that people do consistently perceive ethnic minorities as being more leftwing than they are, and yeah, I do sort of think it is just a 'well, you must be ultra-woke and economically leftwing, I mean *look* at you' kinda thing.

People who criticise fantasy novels for merging medieval technology and aesthetics with modern moral norms are quite frankly missing the point which is that that is exactly what people like about it and that it is good

You guys realize the Jacquard machine is just a statistical trick, right? Power looms can't truly "weave"; they're just stealing patterns from real weavers and regurgitating them as hallucinogenic loom slop.

if i have to be nonchalant about the prospect of Russia levelling my home city to build an abstract 'progressivism', a thing they CONSTANTLY VOCALLY THREATEN TO DO, then I simply do not wish to collaborate with you on anything because you are literally a danger to my life.

What is this high school debate shit?

Everyone wants peace!

Adults just realize that any peace which lasts beyond a Russian re-arming / recruitment cycle has to be on terms that don't reward Russia's initial invasion with land and legitimacy, and which meaningfully deter future aggression.

Once again tapping my "it really melts people's brains to consider that, despite generally being absolutely heinous, in the three major territorial disputes in the Americas that can be traced back to the British Empire, the UK is in fact on the morally right side" sign
every time Argentineans post their little crybully rants about the Falklands it's a reminder of the mentality that resulted in their incompetent fascist junta getting hundreds of their own conscript soldiers killed in an unprovoked invasion.

no Argentinean has ever been born on the Falklands, no Argentinean has ever been raised there, the people of the land have no connections to them, they have literally no connection to the land other than an artificial nationalist mythology juked up by successive governments.

irredentist fantasies are bad, irredentist fantasies about territory you never controlled and have no actual connection to are worse, irredentist fantasies about territory you never controlled where the locals despise you that you lost a fascist-led war over are despicable.

I have seen mutuals who flirt with a support of a possible American intervention in Venezuela.

Let me remind you we are currently supporting Ukraine, a country that is being illegally invaded. The Maduro regime is an awful communist dictatorship. But it doesn't make illegal invasions ok.

No, you genuinely have no idea how wide this gulf is. Even with, say, Louis XIV's France.

The resistance put up by local aristocratic parlements to Louis' decrees would have been unthinkable in Russia at nearly any time under the Tsars (brief, swiftly crushed exceptions aside).
Russia starting out as a hypercentralized, absolutist state that could withstand the Khanate *does* have a lot to do with its continuation as, well, a hypercentralized, absolutist state, but our other states were typically also centralized and absolutist prior to the 19th century

Olivia Nuzzi did more than violate journalistic ethics to help RFK Jr's campaign. She assisted an apostle of pestilence. In humanity's struggle against disease, fought since the beginning of history, she sided with the enemy. She betrayed the species. She betrayed us for her own gratification.

🕯 Eternal memory to all victims of Holodomor. A moment of silence.
