if capital can't justify the operating costs of a newspaper in every city over a few hundred thousand people (even though this worked profitably for decades) i think it's up to the federal government to fund them and if red states don't like a bunch of big city libs reporting on them, all the better

On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

Apart from the fact the leader of the right mocked Reiner, one small difference is that Reiner's day job was making movies that people loved, while Kirk's starting point was creating enemies list of professors to be fired or harassed. These are not the same things.

By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

I was in a tribunal a week ago where DHS moved to pretermit every single asylum case on "safe third country grounds." Every. single. one.
At one point, a judge scheduled a second master for a man to prove he would be in danger in Honduras. Confused, he said "No, Peru. I'm from Peru."

Immigration judges are "pretermitting" huge swathes of asylum claims on the grounds that the person can be deported to a third country instead — one of the explicit statutory grounds for denying the right to apply for asylum.

It is deeply important to understand that the Trump Administration is evil.
No one deserves what happened to Rob and Michelle Reiner, but some people extra don't deserve it. He always came across as just a sweet old man who loved movies, and everyone who's ever met the guy seems to be confirming that impression today. Sometimes all you can say is that it just isn't fair.

Thinking, as always, how many people were driven out of their jobs and even arrested for correctly describing things Charlie Kirk said while a clear effort was underway to use his death as a pretext for an authoritarian takeover — sometimes even though they still condemned what happened to him.
