The people pushing for the elimination of birthright citizenship are currently committing atrocities against immigrants within our country's borders and murdering fishermen overseas. and this is why the Death of the Humanities Degrees is devastating; we're just giving up on teaching students how to synthesize information in a way that's not somehow tied to capitalism
One hard part of the literacy problem in the United States is there are a lot of people -- some of them with college degrees and beyond -- who don't realize that they are bad at reading

I think the slipping standards of literacy and education in the US in particular is having a really deleterious effect on culture, because the global tastemakers and cultural gatekeepers come from a nation that made phonics education controversial and turned consumer brands into religions.
