I think about procedural/emergent narrative systems for games a lot. https://www.hypermagical.com/

If anybody knows of any open game AI (not that kind) or generalist/gameplay/tools programmer roles I'd love to hear about them

Last night I watched a streamer in Arc that downed other players and then had them answer trivia questions in exchange for a revive. The questions were like "who runs this whole operation" and "what's the name of the cataclysmic event that led to all this" and lol no, gamers do not pay attention.
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

A big reason proc gen feels so different to AI in spite of superficial similarities is exactly this!!

Proc Gen systems reflect the interests and creative preferences of the tool makers, whereas AI is catch-all sludge that reflects no specific point of view. It’s not remotely the same!
In case anyone ever asks, I *have* written a material generator and a music generator for Eldritch 2, but that's not AI. That's me taking all the things I personally know about those things, and writing my own tools to make the process a little faster and easier for myself. It's still 100% me, baby.

I am once again pitching the NBA on figuring out how to work with the spectacle instead of trying to fight it, and proposing a 3v3 tournament with the winners getting a million bucks and bragging rights.
So to sum up the All-Star Game selection process this season:

24 All-Stars
12 from each conference
Positions don't matter
16 US players
8 World players
2 US teams
1 World team
8 players per team
If there are not enough US or World players then Adam Silver will select more to fill out the teams.
Looks like NBA just revealed the All-Star Game format this season. Two teams of American players and one World team. Same selection process for the All-Stars but they will not be picked based on position. So positionless All-Stars selections.

I helped a friend build a platform for this back at the very start of AI. I consulted to give the games perspective cause hey! No more "Arrow to the Knee"!

But no. It sounds good til you explore it. Once you think it through it falls apart entirely, just crashes and burns.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has defended AI following Eurogamer's 2/5 Arc Raiders review, which criticised the game's use use of AI voice generation. "AI dialog generation + human personality and tuning could totally transform gaming," Sweeney said.

There's no way you could have James Bond wake up as part of an evil org as their ace operative with *almost* full memories of his time in it.

Impossible to cold open with Bond on an MI6 surgery table with M saying "James Bond, killed in action. Now save his life." before lying to everybody.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

For real. "If I get sick how to I make sure I can see a doctor instead of dying?" is a giant decision-distorting force in my life and most of my friends lives (no matter how good a job they work).
Hey man, you know what would make Nightshift Galaxy way easier to realize? Medicare For All. Literally the biggest impasse right now is figuring out Health Insurance for next year.

Me Too was Pearl Harbor for elites. Most of them saw Harvey Weinstein and thought, "that could be me," and since then every hint of accountability for elites, or mass movements by peasants, has further convinced them they are facing an existential threat that must be destroyed at all costs.
Increasingly of the opinion that the Rosetta Stone to understanding elite politics in America in the present era --news media, tech, & finance elites esp--is Me Too, The Pandemic, & BLM experienced thru the prism of social media and group chats.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

right, so … this is why the layoffs that are being attributed to ai are happening. it’s technically true but it’s not about replacing people with ai it’s about spending out the ass on ai investments and having to cover those expenses to maintain a margin by lopping off salary expenses
