A few months ago I was at the National Gallery, listening to a podcast executive proclaim the “bright future of audio” while literally haloed by angels in 3 metre tall renaissance masterpiece.

He was out of a job by the summer.

New post up: I wrote about why Hollywood Con Queen / Chameleon is one of the smartest, best-told true crime stories ever made.

Wild scam. Perfect protagonist. Top-tier narrative craft.
A reminder of how good podcasting can be when it’s done with real care.

This is already a good post, buts it made like 39% better by the knowledge the images are from a 1970s German film, Und Zen read in a German accent, Ja?

Canada made weird tv shows because it was all being done with government funded art grant money so they fell in this wacky middle ground between “shoestring budget” and “no expectation to generate shareholder value” which is really the best way to make art

Only 2025 British defence procurement could spend £6 billion to produce a vehicle that is so wobbly it makes the crews vom everywhere.

This is literally a problem WE solved with the Whippet in 1918!

I keep saying, Google intentionally making its search worse is a world-historical fumble, and it's a huge opportunity for so many others across the internet, if they'll just seize it..
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Last night, because google is completely enshittified, I asked chat gpt how many German capital ships in WW2 were torpedoed by British submarines.

This is easily available data, I just couldn’t be arsed to read 7 Wikipedia profiles. Theoretically ideal chat GPT task
