Kind, but generally unhelpful.

Work: archaeological and osteological ethics.
Play: horror, religious syncretism, and (unpopular) how Iron Fist is actually awesome.

There is something else intrinsically troubling about traditional femininity and cottagecore and the desire to homestead… because they require land. Ownership of land and homesteading slots uncomfortably into a neo-Manifest Destiny.
I like pretty dresses, but not the romanticization of land grabs.

Happy St Katherine's Day to all scholars, librarians, and Katherines. May you win an argument against an annoying man today, in the true spirit of Katherine herself.

Preparing lecture materials for my “curation and preservation of sound recordings” unit. By “preparing lecture materials” I mean that I’ve been doing nothing but listening to obscure old LPs.

Vance et al adore the notion of schism. They misapprehend, at core, the entire notion of the Church
It's quite fascinating how tradcath converts like JD Vance and Kevin Roberts are increasingly at war with much of a more liberal Catholic Church hierarchy in the United States

I have been confronted with an ad for Advent calendars and so it is time for the annual PSA:

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BEGIN

ON

CHRISTMAS

THEY ARE NOT ANY OF THE DAYS LEADING UP TO CHRISTMAS

THAT IS ADVENT

WHICH BEGINS FOUR SUNDAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

I have been saving my sanity by buying 50¢ abjectly wrecked Barbie dolls, repairing and repainting them and building a gothic dollhouse where they can all live in harmony. The number of doll limbs piled around my house may mean that I have in fact NOT saved my sanity.
The opposite in fact.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.

And the lousiest trick he ever pulled was probably losing a fiddle contest to a pimple-faced hillbilly.

If you take your artist name from a profession (Raekwon the Chef, The Alchemist, Surgeon, The Carpenters, etc), you can be called on to perform that role in an emergency situation, even if you don't have a formal qualification for it.

My sanity is deeply contingent on watching the soap opera level dramas occurring within the feral cat community in my neighborhood. I get up hours before sunrise just so I can spy on them. Let me tell you, that one big scruffy calico is making some enemies.
