Incredibly tragic, ‘police said the driver “did not see” the bicyclist.’ 😡

Nearby there is a 2-way separated bikeway, memorial quick build the same thing here, keep one parking lane, take out the centerline and let these drivers share 18’ to “see” each other closer.

The thing frustratingly not talked often about with AI is what its true costs will be. Companies are operating at such a GARGANTUAN loss right now, that even if they got AI working 100%, the cost to break even could prevent common implementation by a generation or two. It just may not be feasible.

One of my new arguments against AI is that even if it was a good tool, human beings are not in a place to be able to use it without harm. We don't live in ideal world where this benefits mankind. We live in this world where it benefits the rich and fucks the rest of us.
OBVIOUSLY do not use AI, at all. AT ALL, for anything. I don’t wanna hear about the theoretical good version, it’s not what they’re pushing on us. The absolute worst people in the world have gone all in on this shit, and it needs to be starved out as much as possible. AI: not even once!
Sec. Hegseth rolled out the U.S. military’s new AI platform, GenAi.Mil, with a link to an empty website. trib.al/tbCJAkT

Predictably, the platform can’t actually be accessed from external networks, but the wonky rollout triggered eyerolls across the internet.

This picture has been making the rounds again, and is being misidentified again.

This is a GOOSEFISH.

This is NOT a tasselled wobbegong shark.

It’s a great pic. I get why people are very excited about it. But it’s as easy to give it the right name as the wrong one.

the digital humanities erasure of archival labor walked so that LLMs inventing archival resources could gallop unimpeded
Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.
I wish a notice like this wasn't necessary.

When cameras are installed, they issue many violations in the first month, followed by a steep decline in the second month. This suggests that the cameras effectively deter speeding by changing underlying driver behavior rather than relying on sustained revenue extraction.
