I grew up playing Pac-man. Being human (or anything living for that matter) right now is feeling like being a dot, just waiting to be eaten by the multinational corporation/AI/corporate overlords. Can we send some of those ghosts in to stop Pac-man??

Something about hitting middle age and finally getting to be the witch you thought you were when you were 14 🧙‍♀

If they hadn’t burned all the witches and midwives back in the day, we’d probably know more about perimenopause and menopause right now. We know fuck all about a condition that half the population goes through because men are a bunch of plonkers*

The truly depressing part of this ad is how misanthropic and miserable it is. "The holidays suck, wouldn't you rather just go to Mcdonalds?"
To have a village, you must be a villager. But our society is controlled by losers who can't even handle the mild inconveniences of having people who love you

As it is written: if you are planting a tree and hear that an alien messiah is coming, finish planting the tree and then go fire up the space laser.
We are pro space lasers, and anti alien messiahs, I speak for all Jews. 😂😏

We know it! According to the cdc 25%of adults are afraid of needles & 16% avoid vaccines because of needle fear. Our pro vax comms needs to stop showing images of needles & stop using violent language like “jab” or “shot”
I think a huuuuuuge part of vaccine hesitancy is sublimated fear of needles

There is so much more and it’s all awful.

There’s a good chance Peter Thiel is doing shady puppet-master shenanigans to mobilize (and weaponize) the UFO community in order to further his technofascist goals.

Ok guys, queer-mergency. One of my adorable children is dating someone lovely whose pronouns are they/them and zie/zir. We've all agreed "partner" is not the right word. (They are in middle school). She's asked me to survey the queer internet.

I love this atmospheric river slamming against my southern windows, but I'd like it a lot more if I was already curled up with tea in bed. (No, I can't, today is a mess)

I made up some half-sheets you can print on 8.5 x 11 (color and b&w) if you want to hand them to aggressive Salvation Army bell-ringers.

I did my best to research everything I ended up including. Will drop some links below.

That and Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather are two that I read every year.

But I try to take it slow. I will aim to get a bit into Dark and then read the rest on the Solstice itself.

if you like doing holiday-themed yearly rereads, i also highly recommend the one i do every year for October, which is A NIGHT IN THE LONESOME OCTOBER by Zelazny. It's finally back in print (and ebook), even!

Reckless, self-centered, and dangerous. Astrophysicists owe it to everyone to understand the implications of our words and actions on the world, and Avi Loeb is not holding up our end of the deal.
Some have argued to me strongly that even if Loeb is wrong, he’s getting people interested in 3I/ATLAS and that’s a good thing for science.

But Loeb isn't just wrong, he's recklessly following an old playbook that got 39 people killed in 1997.

Loeb’s Behavior is Reckless
I’ve largely ignored Loeb for the past few weeks. When he started in on his 3I/ATLAS thing, there were plenty of mainstream media outlets willing to give his claims a wide and credulous platform, and ...
