if you held this up against some Twilight fanfic (not the "good" kind like Fifty Shades, I mean the snicklefritz), you would not be able to tell which was which
It needs to be emphasized that this paragraph is about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

breathed an actual sigh of relief here -- shit is still bad, but at least it isn't (currently) as bad as it could get
1. In a major update, the Trump administration has reversed course publicly, and now says "all passports" will remain valid until they expire for transgender people.

This comes after many outlets reported a message that indicated passports could be revoked.

fascism is a movement long before it is a government
“It’s not fascism until its control is total and fear of it is ruling your life” is a take designed to keep you from fighting until it’s too late.

Hope this helps.

the South is easy to define - it's anywhere that wanted to secede from the Union
I understand why some white liberals from the Deep South want to insist that there isn't something distinct (and bad) about Southern political culture but the problem with this is that we wouldn't even have this idea of "The South" as distinct from the rest of the US if there wasn't a there there

huge partisan divides between laity and clergy in mainline US Protestantism, including Baptists ministers, who are much more GOP leaning than their congregations. in all other cases the clergy is way more Dem than the laity.

There is absolutely nothing old or consolidated about *multiracial, pluralistic democracy* in America. It only started 60 years ago.

And the conflict over whether or not it should be allowed to endure and prosper has been the central fault line in U.S. politics ever since.

like folks, this is the kind of evidence historians *don't* want to see because it makes things too obvious, can't write a paper based on something like this, folks will read it and be like... well yeah obviously?
One of my biggest takeaways from today's Epstein file dive (so far) is that every single thing we suspected about Trump is true, and Epstein is at the heart of all of it.

JB Pritzker is done unless he does the right thing, right now. The best time was anytime in the past, the second best time is right now.
From a CBS Chicago report in 2024:

“In a deposition, Giuffre accused Thomas Pritzker, a Chicago businessman and Hyatt Hotels executive chairman, of serious sexual allegations, naming him as one of several men she was trafficked to have sex with”

this is peak bluesky imo: I post about fascism 24/7 and have never gotten as much vitriol as i have from a shitpost about not liking post-credit sequences

i am not complaining about this, honestly i like that it's weird like that here

this is always were it was headed. the right-wing doesn't believe that women and girls are people with rights, they are things to be used, coveted, and controlled. it is easier to do that with minors, so they don't think it's a big deal.
