Canadian, Tory, somehow found my way onto Bluesky and am now trapped here. Interested in military history, COIN, foreign military training, jihadism, the KPA, and many others.

In the spirit of promoting more Canadian mili thought and history, some book recommendations! First up, this one (surprisingly available in the UK too)! An examination of a Canadian victory which I believe has more lessons to teach than Vimy Ridge- covering everything from staff work to logistics.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

No they should green light my Downton Abbey Westeros show where the throne is a fading constitutional monarchy. This week, Lucy Stark dances scandalously with the ambassador from Braaveros. Meanwhile, her father is having trouble finding a new dragon mucker willing to accept servant wages.
i feel like if you understand what the ending of the show was trying to say there's no point in having any content set after it.

no new age of the world, westeros is trapped in doomed to be trapped in hellish medieval stasis for eternity. the wheel spins on forever

The committee that settled on the phrase “underscoring his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy” should be dissolved and its members compelled to take a remedial course on the scientific method.
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.
RFK Jr. Says He Instructed CDC to Change Vaccines and Autism Language on Website
In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

I see JD Vance has decided - with his billionaire hedge fund MAGA buddies - to launch on an attack on Canada based on some economic “analysis“ from another hedge fund.

I may have said something on Xitter, my first posts there in months.

In case his fans come to visit: JD and Trump can fuck off.

Fine. You all win. I’m logging off for the day because I‘m a big smelly man who’s also a Nazi and a bigot because I liked it better when Groypers didn’t have 1,770 nuclear weapons on hair-trigger alert. Feel free to brag in your discords about how my jimmies have been rustled and I was owned.

Floyd Tesseract is one of XCOM: Chimera Squad’s best character ideas. A Sectoid who helped the aliens initially take over Earth, who became a conspiracy theorist radio host on the basis of “I know conspiracies are real because I ran the last one.” You Should Have Believed” is a great title too.

we all have to collectively pretend that many pre-musk tastemakers weren't toxic, that complete nobodies weren't being brigaded over 'waffles' like stuff, and the trash fire on our 'side' was so bad that it made the other side just blend into the landscape

when musk took over twitter initially there wasn't a mass exodus because the existing state of it was so bad that it seemed like any damage he could do to it wouldn't really be noticeable. and when first wave of refugees went out, many were so toxic that a lot of others silently said 'good riddance'

Please we need to have a more sophisticated analysis than "capital wants this" in 2025 for the love of god.

We are doing like 2 trillion in green investment annually. Lot of resistance to transition is frankly big state actors (saudi, russia, india) and confluence of tech/media interests
You ever just sit down and realize that the rise of 21st century fascism is capital's answer to climate change?

specifically, if I see one more article that doesn’t seem to grasp that Ukrainian FPV drone pilots are almost always on the frontline, in *extreme* danger, and are very regularly killed because their controller signals are easily detectable via electronic warfare methods
begging defense analysts to stop writing stuff that assumes that operating a MQ-9 Reaper and operating a $400 FPV drone is pretty much the same thing and works about the same way

this is, btw, a great and easy-to-grasp example of how masses of fpv drones do not *replace* artillery, they are a field-expedient solution when you don't have enough artillery
