in my darker moments I wonder when this will happen to Atlanta, there's a much more sophisticated regional water planning process here because of the interstate "water wars" from a while back, but even best laud plans get laid to waste by climate change and "growth at all costs"
I actually thought I had shared this on here and I hadn't. But if you want to look at why Tehran has to move it's climate change, yes, but it's genuinely fascinating as a failure of long term planning/ not understanding water supplies.
you'd think the forced displacement of 10 million people from one of the oldest centres of civilisation in human history would get a little more news attention than beltway journalists writing essays on how Olivia Nuzzi is a genius because they want to bone her and you'd be wrong

we are quite literally here due to an "imperfect democracy", one that was co-opted and taken to task by outside forces again and again, first neoliberal capital and now maga reactionaries born of christian nationalism. perfect democracy or nothing, and an imperfect democracy won't get us there.
Sure, but I'm not arguing for some platonic ideal of democracy. I'm arguing for our imperfect democracy over all forms of authoritarianism. And once THAT's restored, we can (and should) commit to wholesale reforms. On the other hand, one could plausibly argue (as I guess Plato did)...

You can tell how serious Pritzker is about opposing Trump's goon squads. These guys all work for him and instead of having them arrest the ICE guys who are doing all the stuff he says he hates, or even just telling them not to show up and support them, this is happening

"Make cities better" may be the best direction for climate action in these grim times. 80% of Americans live in urban areas. Creating neighborhoods with reliable, frequent public transit, protected active transit, and dense, affordable housing could make US cities *so much better to live in* while..
Watching a panel on "urbanism as climate action." This is a huge, burgeoning field/idea/movement, but the desiccated boomer counsels who decide where climate funding goes are *clueless* about it and so it has to seek funding elsewhere.
