my biggest beef, and I think the biggest room for harm, is in accountability. if some driver did that and hit a kid they'd lose their license at a minimum. if a waymo did it I honestly don't know what would happen to address or resolve the problem outside of the kid's parents suing

oh, for sure. just anecdotally I've seen them do shit that's definitely endangered their passengers and other people, but compared to the average driver that's 2x more risky and 10x more distracted it's hard to say it's not an improvement.

idk if that conclusion lines up with the premise. if anything, large systems create an obfuscation of responsibility and act more like what Dan Davies calls "accountability sinks".
