I've told this story on ContrabandCamp but it's worth sharing for BHM because it's one of the greatest stories ever.

A thread.

Pro tip: If you are attending a rally or action, wear a N95 mask & bring extras to give to others.

High quality masks can serve triple-duty: they prevent you and others from getting sick from airborne viruses, they keep your face warm in the freezing cold, & they can protect against surveillance.

Fascinated how basically in every country now rightwingers complain about "woke," using the english word or similar (e.g. "le wokisme"). When you think about it as a specifically anti-African American reactionary movement, you could say facebook's big accomplishment is globalizing the confederacy
It’s really hard to overstate the extent to which conservatives are now just the same type of facebook ogre in every single country with few or no other defining affiliations

But again: don’t expect collapse, but rather an impoverished economy. Think affordability is bad? Just wait until interest rates climb up, bc the world is no longer as inclined to park their money here…

Defund the police cost dems so badly in 2020 they won congress and the presidency

“Yeah but they would have won by more”
How well did that kind of statement work out the last time? "Defund the police" cost them. We need Immigration and Customs Enforcement. But the Dems can insist on removing qualified immunity, no firearms on American streets, and proper training. And stronger background checks. No Proud Boys as ICE

I think people underestimate how big this is. Like a city-wide strike is not something that has happened in the US for nearly 100 years
there are a bunch of big names on this list, including multiple beard award winners, and some places i never would have guessed in a hundred years (the malt shop?!) and i'm genuinely floored and delighted to see so many participants

Like @brooklynmarie.bsky.social says: Borders keep you in
New— An American citizen boarding flight from Boston to Lisbon just now told me after showing boarding pass, every passenger stopped on jetway by two ICE agents demanding to take their photo. When passenger asked why, ICE threatened to detain them. If they said no photo, couldn't board/TBD detained.

I grew up hearing stories from my father about how folks abducted by Franco’s secret police would routinely “escape” to the roof of police HQ and “commit suicide.” The obviousness of the lie was itself an intimidation tactic.
"agents told hospital staff that Castaneda Mondragon ... 'purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.'”
A Minnesota man received a life-threatening injury while in ICE custody. It's not clear how he got injured because his memory and ability to communicate are so severely impaired. Agents said "he got his shit rocked." Wild story from @katrinapross.bsky.social sahanjournal.com/health/ice-d...

In Trump's first term, you saw people just completely not able to notice that the US already had a tradition of banning entire groups of people, and nationalities, from immigrating. A precedent going back to 1882.

135 years before Trump's first term.

Americans, seeing fascism, will call it literally anything else: communism, anarchism, Maoism, Stalinism, etc.

Like their eyes just glaze right past it, it doesn't process.

And even if they do actually notice the fascism, they don't notice its basis in centuries of domestic homegrown tradition.

All reposts and no posts makes Becky a dull follow, so here's the pot of tomato sauce I cooked down from my farm share tomatoes I froze last summer. Not enough to bother canning after they went through the food mill, so freezing again but far more compactly.

Yeah, body cameras aren't going to inhibit the goons.

Jonathan Ross was literally filming with one hand as he executed an innocent civilian with the other.

All body cams will do is free their other hand up for, what, a second gun?
The killer of Renee Good proudly RECORDED THE KILLING. Body cams won't stop this. And "training" just gives ICE more money to train its agents to keep doing what they're doing.

Abolish ICE. Defund it entirely.

If @booker.senate.gov is your senator, please call him what you think. (202) 224-3224
THREAD. Having just written a book about this and talked to a LOT of Democrats, I can assure you that neither Cory Booker nor the policing industry he’s advertising think that more money for ICE “training” and tech would address any problem that any person of good will has with what ICE is doing.
