This is your regular reminder that lowering the interest rate usually increases the flow of money through the economy at the cost of juicing inflation, but when the economy is stagnant for reasons unrelated to fiscal policy it just makes everything more expensive.
Breaking news: The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point for the third time this year, seeking to shore up a softening labor market even as inflation builds and leaving the prospect of more cuts next year unclear.

Remember when “never read the comments” was a thing? Now we made comments even more frictionless and for some reason that led to using them to dictate public policy.
this idea that ones twitter replies represent ANYTHING of note is a good example of how social media can fry the brains of the weak willed
the thing about the Free Press types is that when you push them on their actual ideology, it's NIMBYism

It still blows my mind that Fox News viewers don’t wonder for even a second how undocumented immigrants are both so poor they’re leeching off the government and can also afford to buy a house when the viewer likely can’t. That doesn’t click even a little?

David Spade gave Fox News their gift early this year, regurgitating many of their asinine “War on Christmas” culture war talking points that were already tired during the Obama administration.

He's also wrong on principle in that the very purpose of a Constitution and legal rights in a democracy is protecting them from public opinion
This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

Get the freaking shingles vaccine. Shingles is one of the most unpleasant things I’ve experienced, it’s like having something rubbing on a sunburn all the time. No vaccine side effect could be worse than that.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

I can’t agree that people stopped “virtue signaling” because the term almost instantly became meaningless; it was applied to any expression of caring or thoughtfulness. I don’t think the vice signaling came from an absence of virtue signaling, rather from the non-cessation of expressions of decency
we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

Now, in 2025, he doesn't even mention it. And investors still give him money to burn

This is a very brave, very cool woman. But I can't get over her parents explicitly telling her to inform her congregation that they do not support her, that's downright sociopathic.

(If one or more of your parents is similarly sociopathic I'm sorry and I assure you the problem is their sociopathy.)
