But the game still wants us to know that killing for revenge is wrong, a message I agree with btw, but it's hard to effectively communicate that when, again, the guys we're after are the world's biggest, most irredeemable assholes.

No, for real, that guy was a problem for EVERYONE. He was waging full scale war on the shogun, his outlaws were raping and pillaging the land, and who knows what else they were up to. We had every justification in the world to kill them.

Also, fuck clan Saito. All my homies hate clan Saito. Saito and his sons and cronies killed a mother and father in front of their kids, shot the 12-year-old son, and then nailed the daughter to a tree and set it on fire.

They EARNED a violent end. I wouldn't have burned the sash.

Just finished Ghost of Yotei, terrific game but I feel like the game's message about revenge was unable to avoid the same pitfalls that every game trying to do a cautionary tale falls into- It's really fun to do combat in the game, therefore the revenge always feels fun.
