Still trying to learn this tech stuff after all these years. I make drinks, play games, practice Bass guitar and try to be a decent hooman daily.

Reminds me of the James Connolly quote:
"We will not blame him for the crimes of his ancestors if he relinquishes the royal rights of his ancestors; but as long as he claims their rights, by virtue of descent, then, by virtue of descent, he must shoulder the responsibility for their crimes.”
Imagine your great great grandparents cheated their way into wealth and power and you, not racist, have to answer for them today? 😂 “I don’t see color” ok well give up all that you have that wasn’t gained with integrity. Then everybody gets silent and that’s the real issue here.

LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language.
It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.

When what we uphold as an ideal software developer continually reinforces norms like "we should weed out unworthy developers," and we internalize strong myths about any difference revealing an innate immutable failing, there are fewer safe places and ways to learn and problem-solve.

MAGA doesn’t follow Trump because they think he’s a brilliant businessman or a tough guy. They follow him because he’s convinced mediocre, insecure people that their ignorance and stupidity are actually strengths, and that absolutely nothing is their fault. He gives them permission to be hateful.

As I've said, there is no such thing as a "fiscal conservative." It's a completely made up term.

Because whether or not someone thinks government should spend more money or less money, depends entirely on who is going to get that money.🤷🏿‍♂️

A fiscal conservative should be yelling "Defund the police!"

Why do so many feel like they've fallen behind?

It's not because of immigrants, trans people, DEI, the “deep state,” or any other bogeyman trotted out by the GOP.

It's because big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains.

Facebook made an algorithm that gave Boomers whatever they wanted, and they destroyed democracy, and then all those FB product managers went over to OpenAI and made ChatGPT, and now they've made a chatbot that tells Boomers whatever they want to hear, and... well, this should go great.
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

I wrote about it here. This was when I was first thinking through a lot of what we were seeing when people used LLMs. What they actually hoped to get from it. A lot of it is "I don't feel judged or harassed by the machine. It just tries to help me."
