We lost Charles Kennedy ten years ago today.

A decade on I will campaign with his spirit in my heart

I/we WILL stand up for liberal values, even if it’s to stand up to our own in the process, and I/we WILL change hearts and minds via the grassroots and up.

I don't think it's all of it by any measure but I do absolutely believe that the political media's raging anti-intellectual streak has got worse with time and has ended up influencing the way MPs talk, and what they choose to talk/think about
I don’t think this is a “politicians have got dumber” issue for the most part. If you look at the *actual CVs* of previous cohorts of MPs, their background is not radically different when you account for, you know, the fact the economy is different! It is primarily a media and ecosystem issue.
We have got to make politics intellectual again. It is the only way that societies thrive is when politicians have the capability to actually think and reflect deeply:

A satisfying twist on the usual "ackshually I can't be homophobic because phobia means an irrational fear and..." nonsense
A bank customer who claimed he has a “phobia” of materials related to Pride has lost a case against NatWest in which he alleged a display in one of its branches caused him “severe psychological distress”.

The economic benefits from scrapping two child limit can outweigh the initial costs. Some estimate the wider economic burden of child poverty at £39bn a year – lifting 10 per cent of children out of poverty will help alleviate this.

Removing the two-child limit accounts for less than 1 per cent of social security bill. To remove 450,000 children out of poverty, that's pretty good return on investment.

70% of the additional spending from removing the two-child limit will go to families who are in work. This is targeting support for low-income working households who are being priced out of a decent standard of living despite doing everything asked of them.

Wes Streeting and Labour lied (again).

When are people going to get the message that engaging with these charlatans only gives them cover for their actions?

Maybe the most 'I am someone the 20th century didn't happen to' post imaginable, in which you think that 'the far right take power' and the consequence is just that after five years, boom that's over but your preferred political outgroup is out of action.
We have to start thinking about what we want Britain to look like in 2034 after the far right have been in power. There will be no status quo to return to. Centrism will be stone cold dead.

This is just bizarre... the journalist talks about *Sarah Fucking Ditum* staging an intervention for Linehan because he's too transphobic. That's like Joseph Goebbels saying "OK, mate, you're going a bit too far with the antisemitism now, get a grip".
im not mad. please dont put in the newspaper that i got mad

Im going to say it plainly. Neither party actually cares about this, they are using the wellbeing of children to cast political lines to define one another because they are actually too similar on social liberalism.

Similar. In that they are both proper shit.
First they set up an arduous trial to try to justify more restrictions on puberty blockers for trans kids. Then they demand the trial be stopped because there is no such thing as a trans kid.
Kemi Badenoch demands end of puberty blocker trial and claims ‘no child is born in the wrong body’

Universities already saying without foreign student offer they are absolutely screwed. Manchester university has the largest international student intake nationwide, the average is 25%

So yeah, Labour think it’s a quick win for them now, however universities will be stripped of planned in revenue
Between this, and destroying the demand for British education with foreign students, it feels like Labour are doing to universities what Thatcher did for mines.

That's after Brexit upset a lot of the money markets, too.

“It’s only fair that you pay back the costs of going to university because you’ll get a better paid job at the end of it … but we’re going to make you pay back those costs even if you get a job at near minimum wage because we’d otherwise have to tax millionaires.”
