A thing I learned about Legolas is that he’s 2000 years old when Lord of the Rings starts which makes him seem pretty stupid all things considered. Like he learned how a bow and arrow works and that was about it for 1800 years.

"The question is how unhappy do you have to be in the present as you struggle to figure out how to solve the problems in the world? The answer in almost every case is that you don't have to be unhappy at all."

Immanuel Quickley was shooting 34.6% from 3-point range at the start of this road trip. He's now up to 36.8% after the trip, inching closer to his 37.3 career mark. He went 16-for-26 over the last 4 games.

One of my favourites. Kurt Vonnegut on the shapes of stories. I frequently consider the shape of the story as a starting point for analyzing what I've read or for writing my own stories.

I'd like to have a clearer understanding of Bluesky's plan for financial viability. Without a subscription plan, I can't help but think that the party will come to an end with advertisements and engagement algorithms the same as every other platform.

I think the bus story is the first time since like 2011-2013 I've felt a truly collective, cultural online experience happening in real time that wasn't political. Reminds me of when Twitter was a healthier and more vibrant community.

When people argue that renewable energy sources are too expensive, remember that we don’t invade countries to seize wind farms and there are no solar cartels. Fossil fuels have enormous geopolitical, public health, and climate externalities.

Quite happy with my reading year! It's been a few years since I've been able to read this much. Stress and life events can get in the way but it's nice to be back on track.
