May be my favorite new (to me) band. Krautrock, classic metal, sometimes funky (not on this one), and there’s a flute!
Love when it starts up and stops!

He doesn’t overdo it but one of my very favorite things in the 500 Songs series is when he connects the dots between political events, small details of technological developments, and cultural changes. Art takes place in a wider world in a way you might not see but from a distance.
(This is, incidentally, why people thought CDs sounded great in the 80s. Vinyl got expensive after the 1974 OPEC oil crisis, and any record pressed between then and the birth of the niche audiophile vinyl market is flimsy shit, easily scratched, all surface noise, no dynamic range.)

For some reason this take is really helping me appreciate Ringo’s drum fills. The man was a model of discretion.

I'll still stand by the right to criticise music but not in this way - though for most of the last 20-odd years I've only written about music I like, because I really wanted to get away from this sort of set-piece negativity. It's ugly and performative and, again, huge apologies to you all.

We should normalize rewarding sincere apologies like this one
Just seen this and although it may be somewhat late to apologise, I'm genuinely sorry for this and the pain it evidently caused. I thought I'd stopped writing takedown reviews like this by this date, but evidently not, and I'm ashamed by them all.

"Crossed the Dunning-Kruger peak and landed in the valley below" is poetry
People are usually astonished by my breadth of knowledge about the American Revolution and American music of the 1920s-60s but those are just topics where I crossed the Dunning-Kruger peak and landed in the valley below. The only topic I'm truly an expert on in Bruce Frederick Springsteen.
One thing about the word "obsessive" is that the internet teaches you there is no ceiling.

I give a great deal of my pop culture attention to The Beatles and Star Wars. Someone unacquainted with them would think I'm obsessive. A brief glance at the fandom tells you I'm a rank amateur.

I wouldn't bother getting it if you're not an obsessive fan, unless you don't have the other Anthologies, but as a bonus on the box set of the others it's definitely worth having.

Using genAI alienates you from everyone else. It doesn't democratize art, it atomizes it.

No genAI user is gonna get an outpouring of sincere support from others because even they themselves don't give a fuck about what they're making.
