2025 challenge for everyone (myself included):

- Have you read the entire thread before replying?
- Have you looked to see if other people have already replied with what you want to say?
- Are you thinking of "well, actually"-ing?
- Do you you and the person know each other well enough to say that?
Will be applying a new policy from here on out.

If you come into my mentions to tell me that [thing] isn't worth my attention or bringing it to the attention of others, I'm going to assume you're a bad actor and block you.

ESPECIALLY if you're an 8 follower account with primarily replies.

In the coming days some people may mine our cherished ally's passing for attention, but grief is not a competition. Let's try to welcome the chance to mourn together, instead.

Holding tonight the idea that ancestors just leveled up.
Gutted to lose Alice.

We never got to meet in person, but we were friends online for over a decade. She was such a brilliantly funny, astute, & fierce advocate for civil & human rights.

HOLY SHIT. They found the genes for fibromyalgia - and it's *not* autoimmune, it's the central nervous system. It's very cool to see some progress made on the thing that's ruined my life since late teenage years!
Medical Republic: 'Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint'

'Additionally, certain risk loci overlapped with long covid (BPTF) and ME/CFS (OLFM4, RABGAP1L/GPR52), two poorly characterised disorders, albeit with different lead variants.'

Fibromyalgia finally gets a genetic fingerprint - Medical Republic
A massive global study links the chronic pain condition to 26 genes associated with brain signalling, marking a turning point in understanding its biological roots.

In the last chapter of Alice’s memoir, “Year of the Tiger,” she wrote her own future obituary.

The wonderful “oracle, storyteller, cyborg, trouble-maker, activist, night owl” we loved so much closed it with:

“Enjoy all of Alice’s good shit, and may you create some good shit as well.”

I’m so saddened by the loss of Alice Wong, truly one of the good ones, to whom community-building came naturally. A great writer, activist, and person. bsky.app/profile/sesm...

If you have a copy of Let This Radicalize You, please note that there are appendices in the back of the book that include instructions for treating pepper spray and tear gas exposure and advice from a movement lawyer about what to do when the feds come knocking. Relevant advice in these times.

Wearing a mask is pretty much the single most effective action any individual person can take, in regards to disability allyship.

It communicates both active, and visual support.
ALSO.
If you're just coming across this news now, and thinking about what you can do to support disabled people like Alice in your community.

WEAR A MASK.

I have no words for the incandescent rage at the casual erasure of disabled folks, because this shit happens far too often. @sfdirewolf.bsky.social was fierce about living life & speaking truth in ways we can all learn from. Honour her memory by masking up & protecting public health.

She gave me the strength to embrace my disabilities and use my skills as a writer to help others.

My life is forever changed because of her.

i’m begging you all to please mask up in the memory of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social who wasn’t able to mask anymore after a certain point, and all others who can’t mask.

that could be *you,* if enough things go wrong.

it’s also all the babies and toddlers whose lives are just beginning.
please #MaskUp, folks. if we go back to actually stopping the spread of #covid again, there will be less covid, and thus, less long covid and other associated sequelae.

So, this thread--particularly @lizthegrey.com's useful explanation of how the relevant databases actually work--is worth reading in response to the Erin in the Morning story that's terrifying our community today.

But I'll add a few broad points about Where We Are and scaremongering.
I'm sharing this bit for folks in my specific situation (F on my passport which is correct, got it changed during the Biden admin):

"For those who updated their passports before this administration, any attempt to revoke those documents would be far more complicated. [...]" (1/2)
The intent, for anyone paying attention, is clearly to revoke trans peoples’ passports and then refuse to issue new ones, keeping us captive and on a state extermination list.

Alice Wong was a fierce advocate for disabled rights. One of the first disabled people I ever saw go on national TV just to talk about how our existences are politicized.

May she rest in peace.
Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

💔 RIP
I’m heartsick to hear that the incomparable Alice Wong has passed. Her loss will be felt keenly, by many, and for a long time. She is a force, a generous leader and storyteller, and an oracle for disabled futures. Much love to Alice and to all our crip kin and comrades. ❤️‍🩹
