Frontenders, I am *begging* you to earn whatever pride you take in your work. How? By testing what you make on the devices and networks most people have. It's not hard, doesn't take long, and there are great automations like webpagetest.org that can make it even simpler.

Solidarity with those who don’t have enough vacation time, money for drop in child care, or a support net to keep up with all these school breaks

We are 7 weeks into the school year and MPS has had a total of 3 weeks where kids were in session all 5 days

If you don’t have kids, aren’t a teacher, and/or didn’t go to school here, you might not know what “MEA weekend” refers to—and Tim Harlow isn’t about to enlighten you.
Story in the Strib by transportation writer Tim Harlow, titled “MEA weekend flyers may face delays at airport.” Nowhere in the article is MEA defined

Not that anybody comes to me for Maine politics, but the fact that the Democrats successfully convinced a 77yo Governor to primary the 41yo progressive, is today's example of why the Democrats fucking stay failing.

Susan Collins is 72 and if Schumer gets his way, she'll be the YOUNGER choice!

There is no such thing as a good book. Every book should find its readers and the canon is basically used to reinforce cultural hegemony to this day and it's a problem.

The first time I met her, I said "You don't know me, but I know you and I love you."
She said, "Honey, I know exactly who you are." And she took my hand and kissed it.

It felt like a blessing, and permission. But it was also a reminder of the responsibility of our work. Miss Major was watching.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Hey, Twin Cities friends -- I've got this great flyer about using whistles around ICE from Pilsen Arts and Community House in English and Spanish, but has anyone seen something similar in Somali?

My clinic is at that location and every time I see our houseless neighbors assemble there I'm not afraid. I am, however, saddened that I can't do more to help, and angered that our civic "leader's" response is to destroy what little they have and push them off somewhere else.

Eric’s my neighbor & while we don’t always agree he’s a person of good faith. We also follow the same habitrails including biking Blaisdell’s drugged-out 2900 block & he’s right about it being a locus of human misery but also no real threat to passersby. (Frey Fences made it much worse this summer.)

Credit where credit is due. I was afraid when Kupchella wrote an op ed teeing up his TV spot.

But it’s pretty awesome to see the Star Tribune writers line up to shit on that Minneapolis is Mad Max “documentary”

I think this is the reason that you’re seeing such a nationwide backlash to his candidacy, not only from hard-core MAGA types, but from traditional centers of centrist power. He appears to be a generational political talent who isn’t corporate or white, and that’s a threat to a lot of people.

we’ll see how his mayoral tenure shakes out but i am convinced that Mamdani has the juice. not just the charisma to win an election but the temperament to govern and the measured pragmatism of someone who genuinely believes what they’re saying and wants to accomplish real things.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?
