Support your local clubs that support their communities but especially support the workers at these clubs. Remember, if it seems like a great job, management is taking advantage of that with grueling hours, low wages, and substandard benefits.

I've hung around with Punks, Goths, Ravers, and Metalheads. Music is community for so many people, especially those of us that don't quite fit in anywhere else. These clubs were my community centers and the people that worked there gave that to me.

I was watching Primus at a music festival in California a few years back and the bartender was wearing a 9:30 Club T-shirt. Instant binding moment. That club took really good care of me and my community for years. The employees embraced us and made sure anyone who didn't was outside.

That's awesome. When I saw one of my festie friends this year after another year apart and she gave me a big hug and told me I smelled safe... It was a touch confusing but still the best compliment I've had in a while.
