I do have a colleague who was absolutely hounded by a small group of Savonarola students because she accidentally misgendered a student. It led to a 17 month investigation hell. I do believe such cases are rare, but I think we should acknowledge that they happened and were bad.
I actually can't follow this piece -- that is just a part of the infernal "compact," right? and as far as I know, the schools have not in fact agreed to it?
utterly pathetic framing, but very on point for the "please please cancel me" crowd. If you couldn't induce despair about your bullshit, you'd get no attention at all, which I guess would be a fate worse than death for you
i’m so tired of this “viewpoint diversity“ BS. we’re teaching what we think to be the best explanation/theory after scrutinizing the best evidence. sometimes that supports opposing views. frequently it does not. we’re not a damn debating club. diversity emerges between classes.
Should add that I am in full support of our canvas pages being accessible; however, faculty are not capable of doing this job and U-M needs to take over.
It is of moderate usefulness, alas. In particular, any strategy that relies on PDF>Word conversion is doomed. OCR sucks eggs. It is particularly horrid with historical documents and documents not written in English. Here's a screenshot of a converted PDF from Tht Detroit Frtt Press.
the best city for street contact is philly, hands down. everybody talks to everybody on the streets. you can end up discussing politics with perfect strangers for half an hour while your dog stands by super bored
