solidarity that doesn’t include disabled and vulnerable people is not, in fact, solidarity

Growing Corn — Paul Landacre
A woodcut in black and white a pearled I'm blanking on plant words here filled up leaves of a corn plant that gets ready to produce its cob and kernels and such really lovely dramatic shapes here with those curling leaves

doesn‘t matter. the internet is full of cringe leftist larpers. putting a real life Black man opposite a stock photo wine mom has a meaning, and it’s not one that adds to the message of the meme.

i share this gripe and we should be loud about it

Personal gripe: the whole saying is "A few bad apples SPOIL THE BUNCH." Somehow this has transformed into "a few bad apples" being a phrase indicating "not a big deal", when the whole point is it IS a big deal because EVERYONE HAS GONE BAD THROUGH EXPOSURE

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

yeah. the choice of that specific dude, even if real dude, paints a layer of ick on a solid meme

Every day I wake up and my industry has proudly announced something that’s just obviously terrible for the world.

This must be what working in finance is like.

Just FYI, here are my personal beliefs on the use of large scale violence.

1. Violence tends to be self-replicating, and so should be avoided as much as possible.

All violence has the potential to entrench itself.

the dude just seems... nice? kind of weird, and nice? anyway. glad to hear second-hand that he seems to be doing well

i have enough of a parasocial relationship with keanu (as in i know that he gives nice presents to film crews and has had multiple family tragedies, but the details of both are fuzzy) to wish him well.

Look I've been holding off from months asking this on Bluesky because of my pride but I need help.

My car needs brakes, my rent is past due and my step kid needs shoes.

I hate having to ask this

really good thread

I know the temptation is to just scroll past this with a “not surprised” reaction, but you should read this if you have the emotional bandwidth to encounter horrifying slurs and violent sentiments, because there’s an important takeaway: extremism is often performed to reinforce an in-group’s bond.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Who would have thought that 25 times as many people would be getting their daily news updates from a Boston College history professor (Heather Cox Richardson, who has 2.5 million subscribers) than from the Washington Post.

the absolute resistance to doing *anything* just boggles me. still.

.... and also, if we had even just focused on clean air in medical facilities and those unavoidable public locations, one-way masking would be far more effective and more people would feel free to get health care and participate in civic life.
whetstone.bsky.social
I've never seen a covid cautious person do more than say that masking should be required in medical settings, public transportation, and unavoidable public locations (like the DMV or courthouses or voting sites).

They fixed the signup page, and I was able to pay for the course! So sorry that I won't be able to attend "live" but I'm looking forward to it.

Yes. His two-arm hug of trans people is really heartening.

The really successful "brand" of Democrats is actually caring about people, and all these pols shaving off "undesirables" in a misguided attempt to win votes are sabotaging it.
