Take care of yourself.
Take care of your loved ones.
Take care of the vulnerable and in need.

We need to work together to get us all to the other side of this because there will be an other side of this someday.

Wow, I've been behind in reading but hadn't realized you've been managing them every day!

I'm using snippets from existing work and I'm not sure if I'll even hit half the days.

So perfectly understandable to slow down! What I've read has been great and I have the others bookmarked to get to soon.

Sam, I was just scrolling through my Bluesky feed when...

SHIA SURPRISE!

🤣

(Thanks for this, I haven't seen it in a while! Truly a masterpiece.)

They attack transwomen who are heterosexual or in relationships with men and call them whores and "bending over for the Gender of Rape" and hating women. Also non-AFAB lesbians are "alphabet soup", etc. etc.

And now the cheap "lols" oh you that I clock you right, whore. Screenshot of a Bluesky post by May "Bunny" Peterson #goddessblade.bsky.social

Being transhet makes hetereosexuality feel actually forbidden and subaltern and sexy which would be rad it not for that being true and therefore the whole "you could die for it" part lol

This is quote posted by Street Scrypt @streetscrypt.bsky.social who says:

Incomprehensible: to depart the Gender of Atrocity only to bend over for it afterwards.

This is screenshotted by May "Bunny" Peterson #goddessblade.bsky.social who says:

I am so sick of getting comments like about my sexuality.

It's transphobi, homophobic, and misogynistic and I've toleraed a LOT of this kind of attitude from other queer and trans people. Utterly ridiculous.

The only folks who are alone are the ones calling out how you've turned the LGBT+ community into a commodified menagerie of negative stereotypes in yor work. Lesbians have to be with cocksnorts and trans women would have no respect or presence without commodification or sexualization in your work.

I love these sort of prologues showing what event(s) years or decades ago set up the plot of the story! It really broadens the scope while still allowing the story to start small and grow.

It's been a ridiculously busy week getting final edits done, formatting and ARCs out to readers. There are still a few spots left through BookSirens booksirens.com/book/B9HCN76... if you'd rather read about butch vampires during October rather than January.

Oh, I know that One Shot to Yet Another Campaign I Need to Play pipeline all too well! 🤣

Yeah, that would be something you’d never fully get over.

Red and her gnoll family are such a wholesome bunch, working together to make machines out of the corpses of other citizens. The family that repurposes dead neighbors together, stays together.

From #Felcrown, my fantasy adventure serial about a megadungeon that becomes a city.

Screenshot of a work-in-progress manuscript with the word 'push' highlighted.

After some quick adjustments, Red swung herself into the seat and started winding the cranks. Despite a floor littered with half-assembled ideas, the walking chair scurried forward — without the limp but with a notable sway to the motion.
“Ugh! Now I’m wiggling my ass like them pretty girls trying to attract mates!”
Red’s da said, “Well, today could be a good day to look for a suitor, ya know.”
“Da! Really?! Please don’t embarrass me in front of my friends talking that way.”
“Yes, honey, don’t push Red like that… or embarrass either of us.” Red’s ma turned and pointed at her. “And you make sure not to talk about your ass in front of Her Majesty.”
“Of course, Ma.”
Red’s da said, “Tonight we can see about gnawing down one of those joints to get them to match.”

#caulktober 13: Has survived something traumatic

With my fantasy romance about two familiars, Phraxxiz the imp lived in the Red Dusk of War, a plane of existence that is constant, unending war ranging from noble battles to (what Phraxxiz experienced) horrifying endless atrocities.

Seeing how much Bubble Blue liked the scene posted yesterday for Kinktober, you can bet Archie Arcanum recreated it many a time for her, as well as reversing the roles.

#Caulktober Day 11: Has been pegged

No one yet, but Kyle admits that Katie can get him to try most anything at least once, and it's implied that will include pegging (not on page tho).

I do plan to have a minor character pegged on page, at least - Roger of the rival band Knights of Future Glory.

Added an intro to Bubble Blue & Archie Arcanum's brief debut for Kinktober. Also, hit my first 4 digit word count this month! Woohoo! Hopefully first of many.

Day 7-10: 684 words! Streak continues!
Total: 2,297/31,000

Bogged down wrapping up midterms and got distracted with filling out here and there for #PhlQueens IndieKinktober posts. Shhh... I know it's supposed to be on the shelf and I'm not *really* writing it again. Yet.

I hope that for you! Also, I don't think I've ever heard of that as a sign of being trans but it tracks. 😅
walkerharris.net
You can do it! Also, you're not alone in that. My wife was a few years older than that before her first full time job as well. It can be an adjustment, but you've got this!
walkerharris.net
I don't, but Clue is a wonderful pick that I might need to start doing that! 😅

She's also used to operating in shadows, so she might be sabotaging the gang. Not so much messing with their investigation, but like bureaucratic issues with their office/home, or supply orders they place go astray, or official law enforcement discourages them, etc.

Hmm... new ideas emerging.

More directly however, I think the biggest opponent to Digs's dream will be her mom. She was/is a hero protecting the city and knows the painful cost of that and desperately wants Digs to find another, safer path for her life.

...realize I could have obstacles to Digs's larger goal. They will run into issues of citizens only seeing them as the honored Liberty Children, either "Don't worry yourself over that, we can handle it" or "Go back to your feasts, this area's too rough for you folk" responses.

...their heads, but at the level where they rise to occasion and somehow manage it. Servants of the evil will cause trouble for the gang but the depths of what they are facing won't be discovered until late in the arc.

At first I thought that was it, but thinking about this prompt made me...

Dignity's overall goal is to get established as an investigation agency helping the people of Felcrown. That goal is made concrete in this arc by trying to find a missing teen.

Behind the mystery of the missing teen is an evil more formidable than the gang realizes. They quickly get in over...

For my familiars, I'm keeping it simple - biggest things keeping them from their goals are the monsters trying to eat them, the sea separating them from civilization, and Daryus's stubbornness in recognizing Phraxxiz as an ally.

For #Felcrown however, being a longer story, it gets interesting.

#PlotTober Day 12: Antagonists

Answer the prompt on the card by quoting this post. Remember, answering a prompt is always optional. Even if you don't share it publicly, I hope the prompt encourages you to think about it privately.

12. What could you use to represent obstacles that try to stop the main character(s) from achieving their goals and from growing into the person they could potentially be? Consider other characters, forces of nature, difficult circumstances, etc.

Remember: Use the #PlotTober hashtag, engage with others, and have fun!

Absolutely beautiful, it melts my heart. It captures the emergence of young love so well. 🥰

I adore these two!

I've shared snips of this part before, but I don't care. It's one of my favorite sections ❤️

Mireia contemplating the fact that she's fallen for Kena, despite her intentions.

From Book 2 of my #Atlantis trilogy.
In those moments she looked at him, and she truly believed he was the Sun Father—the personification of hope itself—and she hardly dared consider herself worthy to stand beside his light.
But then, usually in the same moments, he would go and do some small, silly human thing—make a stupid joke and laugh at it himself, nose crinkling—and then he was just Kena again, her dearest friend, making her heart explode into butterflies.
Any little thing he did was enough to pluck the strings of her soul. He’d bring her something warm to drink when she wasn’t feeling well, or for no reason at all. He’d quietly leave a flower from his garden lying around somewhere he knew she would find it. She’d catch him lounging in the sunlight, playing his pipe to himself, and her body would ache to touch him. The sickness became worse and worse every day. He didn’t even have to do anything, and he could set her off just by being there, existing. His hands, his hair, his smell—the way his honey-colored eyes changed in the light—the shape of his mouth when he thought he was clever—the sound of his low, soft voice when he read to her from Ba’oti’s scrolls.
She wanted him. There was no use in denying it anymore. She didn’t know when it had happened, but somehow over the years, friendship had become fondness had become fascination had become desire. The takeover had been so gradual that she hadn’t realized what was happening until it was too late.
walkerharris.net
It's one of my favorites, too. It's so beautiful.

I hope you don't mind, but it's one that I've saved to my "Snips to learn how to write from" folder that I look at now and then to study wonderful passages like this to see how I can improve my writing.
walkerharris.net
Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear that!

I hope you can find space to care for yourself and your friend, and that you can find comfort as well through this.

It's from a tradition not my own, but I still find it a comforting kind thought at times like this - but may their memory be a blessing. 🫂

The biggest thing that helped me personally from Save the Cat wasn't the beat structure so much as it's approach to genres. That was very insightful to me, at least.

(And I even added in a nod to StC and the MMC actually saving a cat early on. 😅)

walkerharris.net
Mostly I have a variety of scenes/emotional beats I want to include and hobble together Romancing the Beat and Save the Cat into a *very* rough framework to figure out how to arrange and pace those scenes.

But it's still a bit of gut feel especially in regards to rising and falling action.

ddwardiswriting.bsky.social
So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?

I'm trying to make Sexy Mr. Rogers a thing (aka Kindness is Sexy). That's the best I got offhand. 🤷
