The awful thing is that I feel like I've been waiting for this to happen for the last four or five years, to the point that when it finally did I just felt numb at least for the first several hours. The reality set in immediately, but the emotions are jammed up, then... all at once. & It's not over.

This is my experience in Providence tonight. I have gotten no official communication; I have gotten updates from friends and via media sources, and #onhere.
What is mind blowing me as a person living in Providence is that I found out about the shooter via word of mouth vs an emergency text alert.

ICE snatched a human rights hero.

Guan Heng risked his life to capture video of Uyghur concentration camps. After escaping to the U.S., Guan was in hiding for years, not knowing his work had been crucial to substantiating China's mass detention practices.

On Monday, he has an asylum hearing in NY.

It's crazy to me that this has been going on for five hours & they haven't expanded the search area. Do they think the shooter is a fairy that can't cross running water??

Since Polygon is leaving it out of the headline: Epic Games partnered with The Game Awards to put money into the pocket of a bigot who uses her wealth to further the genocide of trans people through lawsuits and legislation. Every 'free' game gives money directly to JKR, and they are complicit.

Do not post unsourced casualty counts. An officer who is not on the scene heard on a police scanner saying “If there’s possibly…” is not a source.
In case you have never seen this.

Also, it sounds like people have figured out which hotel the ICE agents are staying at and are giving them a lovely overnight musical performance with drums and vuvuzelas and so on.

It's clear from the article that ICE is *miserable* here. They're freezing their asses off and being harassed everywhere they go. Property managers aren't allowing them access to rental properties and people know their rights and aren't letting them in.

KEEP IT UP.

This article is sympathetic towards ICE but still a good read because it's clear that Minneapolis and Saint Paul are doing AMAZING work (with a little assistance from our weather).

One of the biggest things I did this year was get distribution for my first feature film, The Woods. At a time where it is becoming harder and harder to get films made, much less distributed, I'm extremely proud of this indie horror film and everyone who worked on it.

“Wonderful Christmastime” is not a perfect song. It might not work on your holiday playlist, or stand proud on a list of beloved classics, but it might be that it’s not a song to be played at home wit...

Christmas Trees aren’t pagan…So why are people so obsessed with this myth?

Let’s trace it back to the German nationalists of the 1800s, the Nazis who promoted it, & let’s debunk the supposed origins — Saturnalia, Yule, Sol Invictus, Yule Log….all with citations.
