This will be my thread concerning my FOIA Request to the EHRC. I think I got some actually worthwhile files, but I'll start with sharing the files so that other people can get their eyes on them.

They provided considerable correspondence between EHRC staff and antitrans orgs.
For what it's worth, this is what I'm waiting for them to respond to.

They're supposed to respond in 4 days. My expectation is that they will give themselves an extension, or deny it with some excuse:

I know it's almost too naive to find any hope in a Democratic politician, but I do think it's encouraging to see a senator see what's happening and move in the right direction, at what must be a cost to his career, because it's the right thing to do. If we had more senators like this, we'd be fine.
Fascinating flash-point here, liberal stalwart Senator Chris Van Hollen's office is explicitly attacking the CEO of the "Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington" for being "an apologist for the Netanyahu government".
Sen. Van Hollen attacks Maryland Jewish community liaison Ron Halber as Netanyahu 'apologist'
Halber, at a JCRC breakfast, had lamented the Maryland senator’s worsening relationship with his Jewish constituents

When both political parties are too far right for one of the main cheerleaders of the Iraq war.
I’m kind of new to the Democrats, but I thought we were FOR respecting the legal process, and also that we were AGAINST political corruption. And that it was especially important to hold to these principles at this time.

But I guess there’s some insider memo I didn’t get that would set me straight?

Trump pardoned Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas (an repeated progressive target in Dem primaries, he narrowly survived multiple times) from bribery and conspiracy charges.

If we're not at war, Pete Hegseth is a murderer. If we are at war, Pete Hegseth is still a murderer. He's a murderer. And you don't need to go to The Hague to hold him accountable because there are perfectly good, American laws AGAINST MURDER.
My latest in @thenation.com
Pete Hegseth Should Be Charged With Murder
No matter how you look at the strikes on alleged “drug boats”—as acts of war or attacks on civilians—Hegseth has committed a crime and should be prosecuted.

"This isn't what our founding fathers fought for" isn't a good argument against the madness happening now bc it erases all the evil shit they perpetuated on SO MANY.

Ignoring truths about what makes the US run, including myths of the nobility of the founders, is a big part of why this is happening.

The other thing about this is when you have to start voting on things, people might remember that they can be held accountable for war crimes committed in ICC jurisdictions and some of these Republicans might actually want to travel outside the US.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

This video is quite bad, and really should be taken down, but I think calling @thekavernacle.bsky.social's use of "nebula elite" antisemitism or anti-LGBTQ+ is absolutely crazy work. Are we just copying every Zionist tactic now?

I appreciate what he's trying to do, but the convention on not giving legal advice when you're not a lawyer is getting in the way of speaking as clearly as is possible. Yes, of course an order to attack survivers of a first attack who present no threat is illegal.
Mark Kelly on the Trump/Hegseth boat strikes: "If orders are illegal, not only do they not have to follow them, they are legally required not to follow them."

Everyone involved in the "double-tap" is a war criminal. That's not me saying it, that's the Department of Defense's own lawyers saying it.
Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.
