This is why I am so vehemently down on people scaremongering the trans community. The assault on the trans community is one on our dignity, trying to drive us to suicide. Scaremongering does their work for them.

Repeat after me: I am too punk to kill myself when my government wants me to.
In the case of trans people, I think most of this Administration would be plenty happy if they drove us to suicide or to voluntarily detransition. They're lazy, they're focused on optics and le epic owns, and even where they are marshalling state capacity (ICE, et al) they're at a breaking point.

A friend was having a drink with a group of tradies after Labour announced their CGT. And the tradies were all shaking their heads and saying "Bloody Labour, taking everyone's money".

"But half of you are renting," said my friend, "And none of you own more than one house?"

No good. "Bloody Labour"
providing the social narratives to people is such an important (and oft missed) key point when navigating social change and shifting peoples understanding and (mis)perceptions:
And we knew this. This wasn't speculation. We studied it, we had the talking points. We trained volunteers to explain this to people. It's not a surprise. Rich people don't flee places with good quality of life when we increase the quality of life. They might try to cheat us, but they don't leave.

Former PM Key - who laid hands on a waitress without her permission & when she spoke out she got pilloried & fired - says public's trust in police threatened by recent events McSkimming case. Why is he even getting to comment ffs? It was a lesser offence but on the the same spectrum. #nzpol
Former PM John Key says public's trust in police threatened by recent events McSkimming case
Sir John's comments come after a report that found senior police leaders mishandled accusations of sexual offending by former deputy commissioner Jevon McSkimming.

People who say that men don't do enough emotional labour have never beheld the breathtaking emotional work of a man whose mate might not get a prestigious appointment because of some annoying woman he abused years ago

I love a nonfiction book that has footnotes like 'This is a joke, not a scientific study'

You know those guys who watched Fight Club or Joker or whatever and thought 'So cool I'm gonna do that', completely missing the point? Ugh, so annoying.

Anyway completely changing the subject ever since I saw Sapphire & Steel 1 I've wanted a house like that and someone just gave me another clock so

I love talking about my kids, but (without ever really thinking about it) I've always had the impression that this is a no-go small talk topic? Like people talking about their pets — you're happy for them, but also to you it's just cat?

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

Tnere is a wasp in the room. It is carefully examining the spine of each of my books. I do not want a wasp in my room, but at least it is a bibliophile.

This this this
People genuinely do not understand that the semiotic landscape we are living in today is the culmination of literal decades of white supremacists deliberately pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable to say in ways that normal people do not recognize as laundering bigotry.

(I've never understood how 'attention seeker' is one of the top insults/dismissers on social media. Surely we, social animals, are built to seek attention? And why is it so bad if we do? And, fucksake, IT’S SOCIAL MEDIA — WHY ELSE IS ANYONE HERE!?)
It’s nuts the crap people believe about me. Someone even thinks I leafleted schools to scare boys into getting vaccinated! That may just sound silly, but misinformation and disinformation like this means some people want me and others like me jailed or even dead. It’s heartbreaking.

‘Experts’ on saving for retirement in New Zealand never talk about low wages or extortionate rents and childcare costs. Telling people to save, while supporting the status quo that makes it impossible really grinds my gears. #nzpol

I will not, as discussed before, read another single story that is clutching pearls about people's reproductive choices. But every time I see one, I'll remind you that there is no economic problem that cannot be solved with immigration and/or taxing wealth hoarders.

Heading up into three hours of fireworks now, on what could have been a pleasant Sunday night.

But, of course, it is we who would ban the fireworks who are the fun ruiners.

This morning I bought an album off Nonesuch Records and the transaction went like

Me: can i buy this album

Nonesuch Records: yeah, that's $8, cool here's your album

... and, why do so many other media providers make this simple thing so hard? And often kind of grifty?
