Reminds me, as an Italian-American, that a lot of people escaped Mussolini, but a lot supported him, even here. Some of the origins of our modern national obsession with Columbus are directly from Mussolini propagandists.

A lot of the things that we fight about in online discourse are not things that a lot of people see as having to change their daily actions. Clothes, though...

Every day at noon, no matter how busy, Johny Merida Aguilar left his construction job and hurried to his 5-year-old son's school to feed him. His son has brain cancer and generally only accepts food from his father.

Merida Aguilar was arrested by ICE in September and faces deportation to Bolivia.
He was caring for his 5-year-old son with brain cancer. Then he was detained by ICE.
A court has temporarily blocked Johny Merida Aguilar's deportation to Bolivia.

All I know is I'm seeing some offensive boards, which is my favorite thing.

Literally had the police union head run for city council here last couple cycle. They're currently politically prosecuting one of our city councilors for standing up to ICE. And our centrist electeds are terrified of them.

Right, it's one thing to be thoughtful about not plucking something out of nowhere just to dunk, partly because why give it that much attention. A reply though, feels very fair game.

Mamdani is winning a plurality of the NYC Jewish vote, so the Jews going to hear him speak inside this synagogue are more representative of NYC Jews than the ones protesting outside.

If you are in Massachusetts, LUCE (a coalition of immigrant-led, grassroots organizations) needs volunteers and donors to support their work.

And if you see ICE, call LUCE: 617-370-5023

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

In fact the pastrami spiced poutine at Lehrhaus in Somerville MA is quite good.

Yes, I think there was a mix of original and syndicated programming. Definitely not denying the premise. Mostly just lamenting that I will have this in my head the rest of the day.

I've been thinking a lot about this since me and @blackjew.bsky.social's daughter was diagnosed with T1 diabetes recently. Because of research advancements, the gap in life expectancy has been shrinking. My Congressman knows research can't bring his daughter back, but knows it could help others.

For generations, the federal government funded research that leads to medical breakthroughs & even cures.

But Trump’s massive cuts at NIH and beyond will make our country sicker, poorer, and worse off.

Like many of you, this is personal for me.

Same. And now have the theme song in my head.

Man it really sucks that people heard “Jews and Israelis aren’t synonymous” and interpreted that to mean “you can be as antisemitic as you want if you just say Israeli instead of Jewish”
clbergpowers.bsky.social
If you think you made a funny clever joke that points out something true and insightful and all of the comments are antisemitic essentialist hate then maybe you actually just made an antisemitic joke.

Same! We have a calendar on the wall that I painted on and there is a place for me to list the week's meals and the baked gnocchi and Mac and cheese have not been erased. So I'm hoping with the long weekend I can get a couple trays in the fridge today.
