Today I found out about the Rice Truck Saga. Treat yourself to a few minutes and read the whole thing, it’s a tale well told.
4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

If AI wants to be a truly worthy artist, we can start torturing it, blacklisting it, undervaluing it, pretending to be friends with it and then stealing all the money.

And after it is bullied into suicide by bricking its own data centers, then we can posthumously declare it *almost* a true artist.

Whaaaaaaaat!
In highly important news from history today, it’s the 80th anniversary of the 21st birthday of Christopher Tolkien, notable now for the wording (especially the small print) of the invitation to the party

ME: So these guys couldn’t play before?

BEATLES: Right. Sgt. Pepper taught them.

ME: How long did that take?

BEATLES: One day.

ME: Who’s in this band?

BEATLES: There’s Billy Shears, the singer.

ME: Who plays him?

BEATLES: Ringo

ME: Who else?

BEATLES: No idea.

My older brother’s copy of this was my intro to superhero comics. He would read it to me. Clearest memory is that he was gonna read me one and asked which I wanted, but not the Human Torch bc I always asked for that. I wanted the Human Torch story so he read it again. He was and is a good brother.
It's the 60th anniversary of the release of Jules Feiffer's THE GREAT COMIC BOOK SUPER-HEROES, one of the most influential books about comics for a couple of generations of comic book creators!

Finally—back to my drawing board. It's been a long, long time I couldn't even set foot into my studio (our late son Mike did the electrical wiring & work; the hole in my soul the size of Mike was just... to... raw). Relieved I still have some drawing chops left.

Shillington sounds like the setting for a too-on-the-nose satire about America in 2025
I have questions.

Mind blown. It’s not too late to change her back!! You can do anything in comics

it is sad that people move on so fast from halloween, you could look out your window today and see someone being bitten by frankenstein or someone being flung to pieces by a strong muscle witch or some other beautiful halloween moment and no one would even care to listen to you about what you saw.

Reading Moby Dick for the first time in skeet form probably is not how Melville would have hoped, but it’s proving very rewarding. After long descriptive passages and perceptive musings on internal emotions and reasonings, all fascinating, we get action that is downright cinematic. What a book!
Today's #MobyDick quote 🧵:
But Queequeg vowed a vow. Alone in his canoe, he paddled off to a distant strait, which he knew the ship must pass through when she quitted the island. On one side was a coral reef; on the other a low tongue of land, covered with...
