Wild to realize the dude had straight up been making movies for nearly two decades by the time he did THE KILLER, the movie that's arguably what people think of when they hear "John Woo movie."
There's often a disconnect between being factually aware of something and your brain actually *realizing* it. Like I factually know The Killer was a John Woo movie from 1989 that he made while in his early forties, but listening to the new commetary track makes me realize John Woo is OLD AS FUCK NOW

I really wish there was a bigger market for less-gonzo Japanese movies. Dramas. Period pieces. Comedies. There are so many great ones that I know would just land with a thud because there’s no good marketing hook. Discoverability is the big problem here.

I dunno man, shits weird. One of my top top favorite movies is basically "Sergio Leone's Favorite Scenes From His Favorite Westerns Remix" Meanwhile, Paul W.S. Anderson drives me fucking batty because among other things it seems like he can't do anything but "quote" other (better) movies.

The Tower’s Tale~ some concept designs done for Victor’s Lab Tower from @realgdt.bsky.social FRANKENSTEIN! Based on the Wallace Monument in Scotland we visited during early scouting. Details and form would be worked up over revisions & the final design built into an amazing (huge) practical model.

And frankly, it requires better movies. Imagine telling someone with a straight face they have a civic duty to the arts to go see Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Theater going requires wages not to stagnate so tickets become too expensive to be a regular treat, it requires paying theater employees well so there incentive to keeping them clean, well run spaces, Netflix sucks, but it's the end stage of a disease of endless growth that's been at it for a while.
