I really wish there was a bigger market for less-gonzo Japanese movies. Dramas. Period pieces. Comedies. There are so many great ones that I know would just land with a thud because there’s no good marketing hook. Discoverability is the big problem here.

Not that anyone following me needs the reminder but this is one of the biggest reasons Todd Mcfarlane gives for leaving Marvel.

A Marvel exec showed him some merch featuring his artwork and bragged to him about how Todd wouldn't see a dime from it.

I dunno man, shits weird. One of my top top favorite movies is basically "Sergio Leone's Favorite Scenes From His Favorite Westerns Remix" Meanwhile, Paul W.S. Anderson drives me fucking batty because among other things it seems like he can't do anything but "quote" other (better) movies.

Legit wondering if people wouldn't be harping on the "he just rips off other movies" as hard if The Fucking Guy wasn't a huge, loudmouth asshole.

Something that has stuck with me for years now is that Ed Brubaker has made more in residuals for the 5 second cameo he had in Captain America: The Winter Soldier than he ever did at Marvel literally creating the comics it’s based on.

Stopped to get gas on the way back from work, didn't realize after I had already left the station way back that I forgot to get a receipt or photo of how much it came too.

Every piece of fiction made by Irish people set in Ireland: This place is riddled with incestuous rot. There is nothing here but decay and strip malls. We are a dying country. Observe us as you would cannibal rats in a cage and and stay far, far away.

Me, partaking: Gosh I'd love to visit Ireland

The Tower’s Tale~ some concept designs done for Victor’s Lab Tower from @realgdt.bsky.social FRANKENSTEIN! Based on the Wallace Monument in Scotland we visited during early scouting. Details and form would be worked up over revisions & the final design built into an amazing (huge) practical model.

So my friend who is a member of the Institute for Hermetic Studies sent this to his cohort who is a huge Holy Mountain fan and apparently my work left him deeply appalled
Okay, so @sidbranca.bsky.social mentioned The Holy Mountain and Van Halen's "Why Can't This Be Love" together yesterday and my brain insisted I bring this into being. They did not ask for it, and yet here it is. Please enjoy. Sound on.

And frankly, it requires better movies. Imagine telling someone with a straight face they have a civic duty to the arts to go see Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Theater going requires wages not to stagnate so tickets become too expensive to be a regular treat, it requires paying theater employees well so there incentive to keeping them clean, well run spaces, Netflix sucks, but it's the end stage of a disease of endless growth that's been at it for a while.

I hope the funny thing happens soon because we're going to have a harder and harder time explaining to future generation just how dumb this shit got the more this goes on.

Looking at this model sculpt of a Predator and Alien facing off and feels less like two monsters having a staredown and more like an inspecies performance of that one scene in ALL THAT JAZZ.

Anime inspirations: Streets of Fire (1984)

Fusing 50s rock-and-roll aesthetics with 80s cybernoir dystopia, SoF was an influential cult hit in Japan.

One of the most direct influences can be seen in Bubblegum Crisis, with Priss' performance an homage to SoF's Ellen Aim and the Attackers.
