Sidney Lumet’s 1988 movie Running On Empty is kind of a weird/interesting double feature with One Battle After Another. It’s on Kanopy, fyi.

The decline of third spaces and hangouts, such as malls, video rental places, arcades & skate parks has been a direct result of the rise of convenience and has also been objectively bad for society as a whole. Its not that everyone HAS to socialize, but having no option to without bars is a failing.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
This is so wrong
Boooooo.
It feels a little dumb to mourn a mall but hearing the iconic Monroeville Mall from Dawn of the Dead is set to be torn down in the next few years kinda bummed me out. Grew up going there. Hope they keep some sorta landmark with the George Romero bust up somewhere at least
Like some of you all have to go looking in transcripts of not denouncing to try to find antisemitism but here it is hot and fresh and clear as day
Hi, hello, now please understand THIS person is antisemitic

ChatGPT gave a significant portion of my students the wrong answer to an easy quiz question that everyone used to always get right

I had two groups of students turn in annotated bibliographies that were ChatGPT generated - not a single citation actually existed
This is fine dog meme

Am orangish brown dog sits on a red chair wearing a hat that matches his fur color. A circular table in front of him has a coffee cup on it. Around him, flames roar and smoke covers the ceiling. His speech bubble says "this is fine"
Wow!
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

god I hate that Chuck Schumer is retroactively making Rotating Villain Theory true but how else do you describe actively recruiting a late-seventies filibuster supporter for the top offensive opportunity on the map

Like a lot of us here, the Lock 'Em Up-est comments I see on social media are coming from, well, extremely normal people. So I wanted to explain how extremely helpful it would be this weekend if they scared the shit out of everyone driving them nuts.

For people who’ve never been to a protest in their lives, Saturday’s ‘No Kings’ rally is a good place to start.

Packed day with our teams at the Rafah crossing to Gaza, as trucks move in via Kerem Shalom as part of President Trump’s ceasefire deal. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.

“I don’t want your protection… You’re Nazi skinheads.”

Cuomo ranting about protestors ahead of what is likely to be a giant and very popular protest on Saturday is quite a choice

You would think that if an American anti-antisemitism organization served any purpose, it would be to react strongly when the Vice President of the US defends people for praising Hitler. But you would in fact be wrong.
It's notable that, after text messages were revealed showing that substantial numbers of young Republican leaders are sympathetic to Nazism, the ADL is praising the few Republicans who denounced them - and is silent on the fact that the Vice President of the United States openly defended them.
"What was reported in
@politico
 is offensive and very concerning. But I’m also glad that many leaders, including
@EliseStefanik
 and
@RepMikeLawler
, spoke out strongly and swiftly against these hateful statements. This is what leadership looks like – and is how decency and morality can be modeled. https://politico.com/news/2025/10/14/private-chat-among-young-gop-club-members-00592146"
