weird phenomenon i keep encountering where “writers” correctly identify the soul-sucking danger that large language models pose to their craft, but for some reason have no problem using generative AI to make images. like….are you stupid!!!!

"I think the Democratic base feels like there is a disconnect. We hear you, when you did your 25-hour speech, I was like go Cory, I love this, that is amazing.

And then there's a photo shoot with you with Benjamin Netanyahu, and I was just like, what in the actual fuck? It was heartbreaking."

Which I think ties into the fact that female authors apparently get asked this question a lot more than male ones do.

I think part of it can be read as a compliment (“this feels so real, surely you must have lived it”) but sometimes it comes from a devaluing of or unfamiliarity with the work that authors do. That it takes research and craft, not just repeating things that you’ve experienced like writing in a diary.

I like Ed Markey a lot, but I’d like him even more if he passed the torch to a progressive successor who can represent Massachusetts for decades to come.

I feel like our side needs to really have the elder retired expert niche talked about as a destination. So you don't retire and go off and die. You become an asset and mentor to people still in office. From the sidelines

I understand that there are right ways and wrong ways to have the age conversation about Dem leadership and I don’t know how I feel about specific solutions like age and term limits. I do know THIS PART HERE is a problem bigger than any one individual 78-year-old and it’s making us all furious

I think my biggest betrayal is that it feels like they have not nurtured upcoming generations. we've watched them cut the knees out from people who get the base excited instead of mentoring them, it's aggravating as fuck.

Ink studies I made based on the paintings of Caspar David Freidrich (1774-1840).

I started these inks back in 2023; it'd been several years since I'd drawn regularly, and I was feeling stuck as to how I could get back into the swing of creating. (cont)

One weird thing about book bans is that the authors of banned books have been ignored or sidelined in a lot of the discourse and in the anti-censorship activism. So I’m not exactly “glad” to see this article, but I appreciate it a lot. electricliterature.com/book-bans-co...

The reason booktok has a reputation for liking poor books is because it skews to younger readers who are naturally going to have their minds blown by new literary experiences. It's the start of a journey for them.

(Publishing allowing booktok to dictate the industry norms is another issue)

What's your totally ordinary opinion about books that you nonetheless find compelled to share when asked on a social media site such as this one for your most extreme/unhinged/hottest takes?

I'll go first: manga is popular among young people because manga often features young people.

this is my brand now apparently
the first panel features a picture of Louis from Interview with the Vampire, and a picture of author Elizabeth Gilbert. the caption says "Corporate needs you to find the difference between this picture and this picture."

in the second panel, a smug-looking Pam. caption says "They're the same picture."

this is funny. I'm funny.
