I think on some level conservative NIMBYs oppose more housing because they dislike the idea of young people having more choices in how their lives are going to unfold

I don’t understand the “oh, you have a LINE on a GRAPH, you think that MEANS anything?!” people who also self-id as some kind of socialist/communist. how exactly are you going to run the command economy, dude? macroeconomic policy made on vibes?
I don't think this a particularly accurate description.
It literally isn't.

A survey is an unscientific method of gathering information that is often delivered by a system that has gamed the very survey to give the results they desire.

Everything Ronald Reagan did and wanted had to be treated as baseline political reality forever and ever, and everything that Democrats and liberals wanted to do they themselves treated like weird things we were unfairly imposing on Heartland Conservatives and at best had to beg them to accept it.

Meanwhile, over here in New Jersey, affordable housing is required to have 50% mix of 2 bedroom and 3 bedrooms, and we build more housing than NYC does.
In the flurry of Council votes, people seem not to have noticed that because of the way the the bills were drafted, they require (for instance) 40% of new affordable senior housing to be 2BR and 3BR units.

Which is implausible & means we won’t be able to build any.

Someone just texted me these photos. They say it shows work taking place right now to physically change the sign on the Kennedy Center. If that’s correct, this needs to stop as it’s illegal to change without Congress.

I think this strengthens the case for Stancilism.

Immediate post pandemic economy was *weird* in a way that made it hard to compare it to similar years.

But we've got low unemployment and low inflation now. Very hard to make the case that now is worse than the Volcker shock.

LUTNICK: What he's saying is if a drug was $100 and you bring it down to $13, it's down 7 times

F: Not a 600% cut

L: But it's 700% higher price before. It's down 700% now

In graduate school a professor made an analogy that really hit home. It's like driving around and seeing a handicap spot open and thinking "if that wasn't a handicap spot I could park there." No! If it wasn't a handicap spot, someone else would have gotten it hours ago.
longstanding theory on this is that people who know the applicant that they don't want to hire has racial resentment offer "wish i could've hired you, but they made me hire a black woman instead!" as a let-them-down-easy cope rather than admit to them that they just didn't want to hire them.

A) expressing ideas is literally the fucking job
B) if you can’t communicate it with doodles, words, or messy photoshop, the idea isn’t fully baked and you need to explore it more, not use the plagiarizing lie machine that poisons neighborhoods to do the thinking for you.
