Something I think that is under discussed is that even if Ds pick up a trifecta w/in the party you couldn’t get agreement on blanket restoration of budget items to say 2023 levels apart from the real likelihood of lack of prosecutions there is a high chance we don’t see meaningful restoration

The drug traffickers he pardons are the ones who work at a scale that can sustain protection/kickback payments to him.

The drug traffickers he kills—if they even are drug traffickers—are the competition, or at least those not worth collecting from.

Not that that’s what he’s doing. But it’s true.
The president has illegally declared war to stop fentanyl trafficking from a country that does not traffic that drug, claiming its leader is trafficking drugs himself, the day after pardoning a former leader of a country who is a convicted drug trafficker.

1984 is over-cited, but the best word for this is doublethink. MAGA has tons of it.

Trump is a strong leader no one would cross and a poor victim who deserves sympathy.

He brought crime down and crime is out of control.

The Epstein Files are fake to hurt Trump and have nothing negative about him.
This is the crux of the MAGA strategy: make contradictory claims and hope no one notices. Either the files are fake, or they’re harmless — they can’t logically be both.
New in PN: MAGA's Epstein gaslighting is unsustainable

"The Epstein files are a 'hoax,' Trump says — a lie made up by Dems to make him look bad. Yet somehow, at the same time, there’s nothing in them that could make him look bad — b/c if there was, Biden would have released them. So which is it?"

Her adoptive dad had sexually assaulted her for years. But when Taylor Cadle told police, she was treated like a “monster.” She was charged with lying to the police and had to write an apology letter to her abuser.

Justice finally came when Taylor took her phone and hit record.
Police didn’t believe a 12-year-old who said she'd been raped. Then she hit record.

If we must beg our representatives to uphold the Constitution, we must infer that they will not listen to us. If they were going to do it, they would already have started doing it, no matter how futile the effort might be, because they swore an oath.
It’s not “likely;” they are openly admitting to breaking the law. Worthless political speech like this is so frustrating and in direct contradiction to the correct dire warnings they keep issuing about democracy. Do something, man! Call on the House to impeach!

If you want to know why Hegseth is panicking about reminders that there is accountably for giving or carrying out illegal orders, it’s likely because he knows he has given illegal orders to murder people.

Correct.

Every vaccine will require an annual RCT powered for rare outcomes for every demographic group.
I can't read this as anything other than a direct assault on the vaccine industry. Full stop. They are laying the groundwork to prevent all vaccine R&D. Not directly, but by requiring study designs for approval that are scientifically unnecessary and financially inviable.
Here's Prasad's full email, if you'd like to read it for yourself: www.washingtonpost.com/documents/30...

And I jotted down a few thoughts on my substack, including how the strategy of "asking more evidence" — which on the surface, sure, everyone wants more data — can lead to red tape.

Yes. It's a very common misconception about the past that horses were just a one-to-one replacement for cars - only the rich had carriages, few people rode on horseback for transportation, most horses were used for hauling, not transporting people. Most people (like most of human history) walked
There was never really a point where horse usage reached anywhere near the saturation of car usage, so it's hard to compare. At the highest point there was about one horse for every five Americans. People just walked a lot!
Considering that horses are dangerous and riders are very regularly seriously injured, I wonder what the direct overall injury/death rate looked like when everyone in our society had to constantly ride/drive horses, versus the injury/death rate from cars today?
