The secret: compensation. Using @deeplabcut.bsky.social, we found injured lizards altered their gaits.

Some showed exaggerated body undulation (serpentine movement). Others cranked up stride frequency. Different strategies, same result: maintaining speed despite missing limbs! 📊🔬

I was living in Tucson during the 2018-2019 shutdown. Decided to check out one of the side borders of East Saguaro National Park. There was a line of pickup trucks along the (cut) fence, filled with digging equipment.

And absolutely no one around or authorized to deal with the plant poachers.

Some evenings, Kyoshi (the dark one) insists on SINGING THE SONG OF HIS PEOPLE so I’ll let him in the linen closet. And since Molly sleeps during the day and our tiny emotional manipulator knows that, he and his brother get closet time.
