I wish we could just go back to calling this "machine learning". Because that's what this was: an impressive achievement for machine learning techniques that Google has a long history of using. The "AI" term is meant to evoke newer methodologies that aspire to make Machine God which wasn't this.

I think its safe to say now: Waymos are just kind of fine. They're probably a bit safer than a taxi, they're not gonna replace transit or even regular drivers (maybe the latter in the distant future), and their foibles are pretty minor annoyances on the road. They've got a place in transportation.

Just got back from my first open water scuba dives and it RULES! Breathing underwater is a trip and getting to hang with fish, turtles, and octopi is an amazing experience.

Look at that chart on data center construction. Notice anything weird with it? While "planned" has exploded, underway seems to have peaked last year and even accounting for 2 month left in the year there's not much likely expansion. Built has been falling since 22, and "stalled" is exploding.

Notable thing here, men NEVER had a significant increase in this response, even during the Biden admin or the height of Me Too. So I think a compelling story can be told about this tracking the rise of misogyny in US media/politics all while so many whine about men's issues.
