It's August 31 and I just made the final edits to the research paper part of my master's project. Sent it and the accompanying zine to my professors and the librarian who will add it to the URI digital commons. I'm THRILLED to kick off September with this project fully in the can.

If you need a late career Udo Kier rec, see BACURAU (2019). An incredible (siege?folk horror?) film, and he's great in it.
RIP Udo Kier. Makes every movie better just by his presence. A wonderful actor and also I love how he decorates.

Out of respect for the late Udo Kier, I'm making my review of BLOOD FOR DRACULA, which focuses almost entirely on his incredible performance, free and open to the public.

Funny how Patti Smith has a better understanding of the housing crisis than Ezra Klein (actually, no, that doesn't surprise me at all, but I liked seeing it in print) - gift link www.nytimes.com/2025/11/18/o...

This story is nuts.

"ICE agents then surrounded the judge’s car and demanded everyone to exit the vehicle, threatening to smash in the windows if they did not comply."

We have long disrespected nurses, but I guess it's cool that people will die as the nurse shortage continues????

Me, on a date: So, what do you do for work?
Date: *explains, names obscure company they work for*
Me: Oh I've heard of them
Date: Wow, really?
Me: ...because of the whole well contamination thing

I promise I'm much more fun than this

This phrasing just turned on a light for me. The people I've been most likely to drop are absolutely this (including at least one family member!) Enjoy being constantly miserable at somebody else 😘
then again i think a lot of these people are probably just addicted to being aggrieved!

People don’t talk about it, but The Long Goodbye is the benchmark for “proper use of a grocery store in a movie”

I restarted my attempt at a running habit this morning. In spite of the WIND, VICIOUS WIND I managed to complete my designated workout. That is all

I'm really skilled at making clothes but I've now failed twice in a row at adding new top stops to a separating zipper. I pry off some teeth, add new top stops, close the zip for the first time and PING: zipper pull goes flying. Sigh.

The Dark is Rising and The Lathe of Heaven. My scandal is that I read good books.
Prompt: if you had to performatively display two books that you wanted the NYT writer profiling you about your career ending scandal to notice, what would they be?

One of these days, Capitalism will sustain its last wound. It will topple and die, and we will see it bleed out in the street, neither mourned nor missed. Every cut and needle's prick brings us closer to that day.

I forgot that too, not one of us is immune to propaganda and disinformation and one big goal of all these corrosive lies is to distort our own image of ourselves as individuals and communities so we become too depressed and discouraged to fight
For a bit I forgot that the current political movement was won with a weak minority and is managed by annoying dorks who nobody likes who have terrible vibes. This video has 1.3 million likes and is a good reminder that better things are possible, even for those of us outside NYC. A good night!
