I get why people are excited about Waymos. I really do.

But, I think we can also look back at the effects of a century of enthusiasm for cars and say, “Going all in for cars hasn’t worked out well at all.” And from that, try to see what the next century holds, and try to do better *now*.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

This is one of the reasons congestion pricing works.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

If the Nimmo-Semien trade is one-for-one including money, it’s a head scratcher for the Mets for me. They couldn’t get more value than an aging and declining 2B on big money where they’ve already got a logjam? And now you’ve got a clear OF hole? Wonder what they’ve got in their pocket next

Mamdani getting Trump to back down & even *compliment* him costs Mamdani absolutely nothing (& indeed actually shows his skills) & probably also saves a lot of vulnerable ppl in this city a trememndous amount of pain if it means Trump is less inclined to act shitty towards us bc of this meeting

One thing that I really grew to appreciate when adopting the Mets while living in NYC was... Both the fans and media were CONSTANTLY pounding the table for the two teams to sign good players, money be damned. It was genuinely jarring to move back and remember that the landscape here isn't like that.
They won’t, of course. Far from signing five mega deals like this post outlines they will not even being to discuss offering ONE. For me, the lack of aggression sours everything the team does and says, which is why I truly hate the offseason. It’s all talk, posturing, and marketing.

This was a good writeup from Tim and Will, and I was def curious about some of these stats after reading what Otto had to say. One thing that this article didn't mention was the (no good, terrible) starting pitching this year. Bottom 4 in the league in both QS% and IP/GS will endanger a whole staff.

My most woke opinion is that cities should completely ignore suburban commuters and design the city we aspire to be. They’ll either begrudgingly commute in by car, mode shift, or be replaced by others in foot traffic
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I still hold a large amount of contempt for a good majority of these Data Guys influencers for this reason
The thing about the "moderate to win" crowd is that they pose as Data Guys but very clearly have an animus toward the left that skews their analysis. When Trump won, they were all pathetically eager to say, "ah, the country is anti-immigrants xenophobes now, top to bottom, what can you do?"

As a former UES'er... Yeah, this adds up. My wife and I have been getting a kick out of this FB group since she joined in a few years ago because they really do not even seem real sometimes.
"The more-than-300 comments responding to that anonymous post are full of mothers looking for property in New Jersey or Florida, predicting that Mamdani’s promise to make buses free will lead criminals to rape and kill innocent passengers."
