wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...
Wikipedia Says AI Is Causing a Dangerous Decline in Human Visitors

Haven't finished Keeper yet but so far it completely rules, feels like Double Fine took a modern engine and a budget and made a sumptuous, lightly interactive surrealist animated film. A superb use of Microsoft's money.

There will be no humans elsewhere. Only here. Only on this small planet. We are a rare as well as an endangered species. Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another.

like no you don't need to have empathy for AI as it is right now bc the type of AI where it is indistinguishable from a real person and genuinely feels things is still entirely fictional and probably will
be for a while if not forever

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't
Moloch is the personification of the forces that coerce competing individuals to take actions which, although locally optimal, ultimately lead to situations where everyone is worse off. No individual is able to unilaterally break out of the dynamic. The situation is a bad Nash equilibrium. A trap.

As a kid I always wondered why the default celebrity personality character in The Simpsons was a clown

As I've grown up, it makes a lot more sense.

My therapist sent me these anti-capitalist affirmations today. Based. Going to try to remember this every day.

Part of the appeal of parasocial relationships i've never seen anyone mention before is how you never have to be anxious of what the other person thinks about you, because they don't even know you exist. It's like having a friend but without the mortifying ideal of being known.

Allow yourself to celebrate even the smallest of victories in the face of adversity. Don't snuff out a light because it is not bright enough. Nurture it, and fight to make it grow until the shadows retreat. Even the greatest beacons may be lit with the smallest spark.

I got the Switch 1 copy of Pokémon Legends Z because I really don’t like the Switch 2 cases lol. Not only does it obstruct the cover art, but I hate how inside the S2 cases they have translucent red plastic so you can’t appreciate the colorful inserts.

Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Black and White Spider Crochet Kit.
This is the best way to overcome your arachnophobia. It is impossible to fear something that you've created out of yarn. I used to have a crippling fear of flying until I crocheted a Boeing 747.

ChatGPT gave a significant portion of my students the wrong answer to an easy quiz question that everyone used to always get right

I had two groups of students turn in annotated bibliographies that were ChatGPT generated - not a single citation actually existed

People assigning personhood/intent/conscience to a chatbot because it can mimic speech but not to animals that actually communicate an inner world speaks a LOT about how they also view fellow humans that don't share their characteristics (spectrum, upbringing, expression)
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
