Welp. My view is that somewhere around pandemic tech companies collectively decided its no longer worth creating and selling new products to customers.

Instead they decided that promises of a brighter future to investors will sell better. And they were right.

Anyone have a good solid primer on why GenAI is an evil mass-theft halucination money-stealing ponzi scheme lying planet-killing brain-death machine?

Especially to share w/ elder parents who still basically think all tech is magic, and credulous youngsters who've been trained into tech dependence?

However.
In Australia, goon is a widespread name for cheap wine that comes in a silver bladder contained in a box:

Also why do people present "What if James Bond is actually... a CODENAME" like they're the first person to think of it. Everyone has thought of this, it's a really obvious retcon.
No. The correct way to understand this is to stop trying to make things fit together. You can watch different people playing Sherlock Holmes, in entirely different stories, without trying to make it add up. Stories are a dressing up box, not a jigsaw.

My grandfather went through a period where he was tuning into Rush Limbaugh to “know his enemy,” and let me tell you it did NOT improve his thinking.
This is the correct take. Stewing in white supremacist propaganda is bad for your thinking. And if think you are so savvy that it won’t impact you, you are the exact kind of mark they are slowly converting (I’m looking at you, centrist pundits).
It’s really funny how a generation will roll its eyes at parents who watch Fox News but doesn’t see why being immersed in Twitter is having the same effect. Lots of serious people show up on Fox News too but that shouldn’t be your primary source on the news.

Obvs different contexts, but my introduction to this sort of capitulation was CBS to Brown & Williamson 30 years ago almost to the day, and it just guts folks rooting for a free and adversarial press focused on afflicting the comfortable and publishing facts that powerful people want to keep secret
In case you missed this, the BBC edited a historian's speech about Trump to remove the claim that he's "the most openly corrupt president in US history." This came after Trump had threatened a $1 billion lawsuit.

Elite capitulation continues.

Read all about it here:

Trump Angrily Threatened to Sue BBC. Then Things Took a Darker Turn.
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?
