Also, the word goon may have emerged from the Australian pronunciation of 'flagon' -
as fla-goon (mate ripper barbie Holden Kangaroo), which was shortened to goon. This is independent of other goon forms.

now, before we move on, I want to note the cultural nexus this is.
The wine cask is an Australian invention (some may argue monstrosity), as is the Hills Hoist. This meeting of Australian ingenuity is notable and laudable. I also note that this goon activity dates back to at least the late 1990s.

to enjoy a rousing game of GOON OF FORTUNE, one removes the goon bag from the goon box, and hangs it from the Hills Hoist. A standard wooden peg is good here. Once the bag is secure, game players stand around the Hills Hoist, which is spun.
