doing face-eating techno with my compadre over here. big lurch stuff. very devilish. coming for necks this halloween.
and i’m straight up jealous at the felicity of description. turns of phrase i could never think of. lines like “mouth dripping an unnamed fluid” and “head colliding with the sound of a snapping green branch” have been looping in my head all day
I had stayed clear of “Manhunt” because body horror is pretty reliably the one genre that makes me feel sick but I did myself a disservice. This book is incredible, one of the best apocalyptic stories I’ve read. Such a good take on the genre; SO well done that it makes classic works seem weaker.
I never know what to say when someone asks, "Why are you into horror if the world is already so bad?" A dark humor answer is "practice," but as you get invested in a genre it starts being more about the artifice of it. Fear and how we access it is global. As art it's different than irl horror.
I can also follow my gut and emulate cruel bastards like Jim Thompson if I want to. At Meow Wolf I had to check my sensibilities all the time because they're family friendly and its leadership are upper-middle class liberals who think discomfort = problematic. So much pressure is off me.
I have written a few novel-length stories. However, these are immersives which I feel are not traditional stories like novels are. They're also locked behind ticket sales and a corporate structure that doesn't care to share narrative work. So I've written lots, it's just that no one can see it.
I'm celebrating unemployment. I enrolled in a writing cohort and banged out 7 pages of outline for a pulp novel set in Santa Fe.

Acts 1 & 2 were a breeze. The third needs a lot of work but overall it was effortless and I didn't have to talk to a single corporate dipshit to do it.
It threads that well as stuff escalates. I always wonder what the appropriate role for cops are in horror. Here, they only appear briefly but symbolize everyone's attitudes toward the protagonist changing. "Disappointing people" really works on me even if I'm older than hell.
"Talk to Me" is so Gen Z. No one's partying. No one is hooking up. They talk to demons, meme it, and have psychotic breaks. The only reason they're not blasting up the school is because it's Australia.

These kids could have been fixed with just one joint.
This sounds crazy, but I don't think the people who post on Goodreads can read.

"So when I start a new writing project I like to work from outlines and reach consensus with the client on a few of the big bullet points. Sound good?"

Client: "I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 150 billion and you have two tries to guess it right."

Obvious to say this, but the actual function of the smear job isn't to make us ask about his aunt, it's to show us the words "hijab" and "9/11" in a headline with his photo.
mom asked why i don’t become an english teacher.

the reason is that i would make my students read alan moore’s annotated “from hell” and yell at them when they gave responses i don’t like.

I find Castlevania 1 so meditative. Its difficulty is an illusion. If you just push onward, thing just kinda work themselves out.
No one at the Halloween party got my "Mold in Jordan Peterson's Lungs" costume. Everyone thought i was Mold in JK Rowling's Lungs. 😖

so is there some test you can give to see if your seeing eye dog is susceptible to demonic possession? It seems to be a problem in Italian horror.
