I love to torture myself seeking fine-grained understanding of events over which I have no control.
Like so much with LLM hype, it saves time and effort until it kills your career because you published falsehoods or supported something indefensible that wasn’t filtered out by publication because no one was writing or reading properly.
Nothing to see here other than a university telling its research community that AI can appropriately be used to "generate first drafts."

@novaramedia.com talking again about AI threat and focusing on AGI and the replacement of workers. But self-driving cars sound good.

IMO AGI has no connection to LLMs, people will have to be rehired once the fuckups of agents are grasped by execs. Waymo just admitted they can't drive unsupervised.

Both these options sound objectively amazing, why do racists keep assuming everyone's racist?

So no. They haven't cracked driverless cars. They've just exported drivers' jobs to the global South.

And no, it doesn't matter if they don't actually drive the cars full time. It means they can pay people even less. But clearly the AI is not capable or routinely managing driving on real roads.

I think this kind of reporting is important. Just because a state may be perceived as anti-LGBTQ - it still has Queer ppl.

I’m struck how ‘Queer’ is now so common. Up to the 70s it was usual for Gay men to describe themselves as Queer. Then it switched to Gay & Gay ppl to encompass everyone. [1]

Although it’s a clear sign that the US leadership is dumb enough to kill their own golden goose and has no secret strategy, their crippling of science will hurt the whole world.

Yes, other countries will take over leadership but the pace of knowledge will slow overall.
I'm kind of depressed to see countries like Canada frame this as an opportunity. No one benefits from the collapse of US science. And you certainly don't benefit anyone by poaching a few big names while doing no other meaningful increased investment in your own research ecosystem.
