I got together with some mom friends tonight sans kids and we ate mac & cheese and made s'mores and talked about our gardens.

It's so nice to have casual friends you can unwind with every month or so. Busy or out of town this month? No worries, you can see them next month.
i don't mean to come off as rude but we cannot sustain ourselves on outrage and anger forever. i think it's even more important now to post about other things too. even if it gets less engagement. you never know who will find it cool and interesting.
It’s a real mindfuck when most ppl wanna post about their latest failures/successes, or weird shit they saw in the wild or cool stuff they made…but the country is a cesspool so cool/weird shit seems trite.

It’s like people forget that NASA has been through these ups and downs, developing processes and rigorous check systems to ensure mission safety and success. But no, we’re going to pay for rich billionaires’ pet projects to reinvent the wheel.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

So is this the time when we advise the people whom we have a duty of care not to go to the US for academic conferences?
I just attended a conference in the US. We had one speaker detained and two others turned away at the border.
There are great conferences and science in the US, but with the way things are right now, it’s too risky to attend.

Look you know you needed some feel-good news today.
In 2014 Dutch scientists left a hamster wheel outside, to see if wild animals would use it like their domesticated counterparts.

The answer: hell yes! 734 visits from wild mice - plus rats, shrews, slugs ("running" being subjective here) & even frogs and snails.

The apparent reason: fun. Just fun.
