I write things and talk about art a lot. I love puns, sorry. 21+ only 🔞. She/her. Ace. Latine. Fonts, cat memes, coffee, existential stream-of-consciousness, ffxiv (villanelle, julien), etc. [not an RP account, but I will blab about my OCs]

French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

I remember writing in elementary school (very silly stories) because it was nice to hide and invent my own world. I enjoyed watching adults be charmed or laugh at my writing. But most of all, it let me exist and live somewhere where I wasn’t the weirdo.
With all this awful news going on i wanna ask this question once again to fellow artists and general creatives. What got YOU into art? what sparked that motivation to start writing? what made you wanna pick up a camera and start taking pics? Like share with us your reasons.

Creative people are complex, enigmatic creatures of many multitudes and onion-like layers. But also, someone can say "So cool" on something we created, and the hazy horrors simply dissipate. We grow dragon wings. And shoot magic beams out of our bodies.

You can also hire her to do cover designs, ebook formatting, and paperback typesetting. She can even do those tricky paperback wraparound covers and dust jackets, and charge very reasonable prices! See her portfolio and contact form here. mzakharuk.com
Due to being a refugee, I only get invited to interviews for menial and service jobs. Because of my disability, I can't work those. I live on modest and sporadic freelance earnings and can't afford surgical expenses. Please help if you can 🙏

I am a very offline person compared to a lot of my friends (this is a neutral statement, not judgemental) and I need to stop apologising just because I check discord once a day.

Tonight’s irreverent thing(tm) keeping my brain awake is a list of adorable names I’d give to kittens. Pierogi, Pistachio, Ampersand, Spatula, Vert, Frederick II of Hohenstauffen, Pickles.

Refreshing non-clickbaity piece discusses the history of the format and how industry consolidation contributed to its decline.

Mass Market are the smaller, cheaper books, Trade are the larger paperbacks we associate with lit.

I try to know as much as possible about my characters, down to their most mundane idle thoughts. I prefer to write from this stance and then offer bits to readers—they may end up never knowing all there is to know about my characters, and I may be the only one who ever knows details.
Fiction writers: how well do you tend to know your characters? Are they mostly a feeling and the information you know about them is just enough to support the writing? Or do you know much more about them than will ever be revealed to readers?

Relevant to previous subject, one of the most interesting works I’ve lately read was the absurdist play “The Rhinoceros” by Eugene Ionesco

in which people start turning into rhinoceroses one by one and causing destruction, but everyone’s response to the situation is strangely distracted & tolerant
