Before rudders, ships used a single large oar to steer themselves. Usually that oar was placed on the right side. This came to mean the steering side, or 'steorbord' in Old English

This is how starboard came to mean the right side of a ship!

I think the single most important skill you can have online right now is being able to ask the question “is this person a journalist or a content creator” and then knowing what to do with that difference

he's the patron saint of guys who think their biggest flaw is being awkward and shy, rather than being insidiously evil. And there's a lot of guys like that here

Peisistratos literally tried once to overthrow the Athenian government using an unusually tall woman masquerading as the goddess Athena.

They have always been this dumb. They sometimes succeed anyway.

between the show ending horribly and the books never coming out I've lost all emotional attachment to that world. Honestly amazed that people can still get invested. Like, genuinely, good for them, they still have magic in their hearts

I am dead serious when I say Mamdani should be assembling a private security force in the event he wins

remember when NYPD kidnapped DiBlasio's kid because he suggested maybe they should murder fewer innocent citizens?

yeah

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

Yep that's exactly where it came from. Since the steering order was on the right side it'd get in the way of docking. So ships docked with the left side towards the dock (and therefore the port)

Dropsite reporting confirms the deteriorating condition of the starving Gazan child highlighted by the NYT was in fact a direct consequence of the Israeli-imposed famine, regardless of ‘pre-existing condition’ (exclusively blamed by Bari Weiss’ The Free Press).

www.dropsitenews.com/p/bari-weiss...
When Israel imposed a full-spectrum blockade in March, Muhammad was just 15 months old. “Until the end of March, Muhammad’s health was still good, he weighed around nine kilograms. But since then, his health has deteriorated week by week. He lost roughly one kilogram every month. Today, at 19 months old, he weighs only six kilograms,” she said, showing Drop Site photographs and videos before and after.

Muhammad was admitted to the hospital for several days and diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition, the most extreme and life-threatening form of malnutrition.

“They say that the skeletal body of Muhammad is due to another health condition,” Al-Mutawaq said. “But if so, why isn’t this skeletal body visible in his photos only a couple of months ago? Why did he become like this only after Israel started starving us?”

the quoted post is a fake edit meant to stoke antisemitic outrage. The original doesn't mention gumbo at all
Article heading:
"Israeli Food

Israelis have developed and continue to enjoy a delicious cuisine rooted in the uniqueness of Israeli society itself.

We are in a time when people are being victimized daily on a national scale for the color of their skin, the cultures they come from, and the people they love. If you think the answer to that is to suggest our responsibilities and risks should be viewed equally in light of that? You're the enemy.
