He/him. Pretty queer. Writer when I can actually focus, drone pilot, media enthusiast. Doctor Who stuff happens against my better judgement.

came back to bsky to share some advice from a medieval French courtesy manual:

"If you have a beautiful chest and a beautiful neck do not cover them up but your dress should be low cut so that everyone can gaze and gape after them".

I've not seen Heated Rivalry yet, how bad an idea would it be to watch it on a crowded plane?

Generative AI is bad but also the people trying to accuse anyone who uses an em dash of secretly using generative AI are really fucking annoying and not helping.

Fascism as imagined by a bunch of twerps who think “punch the psychologist and steal both marshmallows” is the optimal solution to the marshmallow test.
Fascism is supposed to feel frictionless and inevitable.

It's supposed to be this gradual boiling and instead they're all gleefully thinking they're gonna flash fry the frog

Another consequence of rising inequality:

Nearly every adult-adjacent hobby that’s even minimally collectible has pivoted to catering to “whales” as their core business model — people who chuck huge piles of money into Acquiring Stuff — rather than making things for the average hobbyist.
I get that Lego is for adult collectors at this point but Jesus Christ

I understand there is a gay hockey show but I don't know what it's called because everyone refers to it as the gay hockey show. Is it bad luck to use the actual title, like Macbeth

Crucially, it is EXTREMELY difficult and costly to occupy a place with a hostile population that doesn’t want you there.
They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

The thing I always come back to is how many people never despaired against longer odds, and how arrogant it would be to put myself above them.

Yes. Also, of course, the genteel Southern plantation.

More broadly, basically every "tropical vacation destination" exists in a world that is in the horrifying wake of the colonial project. Bali, Hawaii, etc. are actually existing "Gaza-Lagos." Indigenous people ground to dust for white tourism.
Tangentially, it is also telling how much the right does explicitly rely upon vacation fantasy in these colonial rhetorics -- from mint julep colonial admins to Gaza Trump Tower to all the weird tropical vacation propaganda about Venezuela rn -- dominion and leisure are deeply linked in their views
Richard Spencer used to openly wax rhapsodic about the days of European colonial administrators sipping mint juleps in hot African summers.

The fantasy of subjugation of the other is the whole point, not actually knowing the subject matter.

Porn and erotica are important and societally valuable forms of speech, and the defense of them, in the face of state and church attempts at repression, is a necessary political act.

I don’t admire or trust Gavin Newsom. I’d vote against him in any primary.

But I’ll vote for him or anyone else nominated for the general election.

My cat. A hamster. Or Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his present condition.

Anyone.
Yup. Fuck every single one of those people.

And fuck everyone who says they won't vote for certain Dem nominees also. Vote against them in the primary, fine. In the general, vote for the Dem, otherwise you're responsible for what else follows.

Their messaging is so fucking incoherent. Maduro was an illegitimate leader who lost in 2024, which is why we're replacing him with his VP instead of the person who won in 2024. We did this to stop fentanyl, which is why he's indicted for cocaine.

We're also occupying Venezuela via Zoom call.

I think the most straightforward framing that captures the severity of the situation is that the government of the United States has been seized by a mad authoritarian regime not meaningfully distinct from Putin or Kim or, well, Maduro, and its members must be brought to harsh justice
