Norwegian PM Støre says Trump repeatedly raises—complains about, pleads for, and demands—the Nobel Peace Prize every time they meet. Støre gives same answer each time: decision is made independently by Norwegian Nobel Committee, with no role for Norwegian gov—a concept Trump appears unable to grasp.

This is a very smart framing.
Respectfully, I am going to whisper to some of our white comrades a truth that should be more widely known: You definitely have some ancestors to be proud of, ancestors who refused white supremacy, and poured out their lives in many of these struggles over time.

Time to claim your true history.

Oh hey friends, if you’re a Verizon customer and they are trying to give you the $20 desire for the outage the other day, DO NOT TAKE IT. You don’t have to even call them. Get onto the web chat, type in “agent”, tell them the outage affected your work, and say you’ve been a customer for X years.

If only there had been some warning, some way to know before Election Day! Ah well. I guess hindsight is 50/50!!
Pollster: 58% of Americans say Trump's second term has been a failure. A year into term number two, Trump's numbers look worse than any other president. Trump is even worse than George W. Bush after Katrina and a long period in the Iraq War. This is really, really bad.

With love for Chris and his work, the full context matters here. The whole hotel is closing temporarily, “due to heightened public safely concerns.” Insulates the franchise from political blowback and expresses a valid concern other businesses probably have.
ICE agents at a hotel in St. Paul woke up this morning to news that they’re getting kicked out of their hotel today at noon.

On the one hand the “anti-woke” crusade and attending moral panic were wildly overblown and really did turn out to be stalking horses for authoritarianism. On the other, the left really does have a problem with purity politics, which repels moderates and dilutes our own power.
the Stancil thing really does drive home how much greater import some people place on having a completely correct billfold of opinions than actually doing something worthwhile in real life

A few days ago, Fox News was whining about ICE agents getting heckled at a Mexican restaurant in Minneapolis.

Meanwhile, in the town of Willmar, ICE agents had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, waited until it closed, then confronted and arrested three workers as they left.

America’s allies are explicitly planning for a future without us as a partner, much less a hegemon.
The Canada-China relationship has been distant and uncertain for nearly a decade.

We’re changing that, with a new strategic partnership that benefits the people of both our nations.

This is actually the really simple story of the collapse of American democracy. You can explain America’s constitutional collapse in a single coherent sentence:
The Founders assumed that Members of Congress would jealously and zealously guard the powers and prerogatives of their branch of government against the grasping of an overweening Executive, and instead we got this supine GOP majority that yearns to lick the boot.
I would like to think the Mad King proclaiming “I will continue to illegally raise taxes on the American people until the NATO alliance collapses” would be the type of statement to cause Congress to act, but I’m not sure there’s any red line the GOP Congress has anymore.

🧵 Trump administration AI policy is widely described as deregulatory. This description is misleading. What's happening is not the absence of governance but its rearrangement--intensive state intervention operating through mechanisms we don't typically call regulation. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
The mirage of AI deregulation
One of the most interventionist approaches to technology governance in the United States in a generation has cloaked itself in the language of deregulation. In early December 2025, President Donald Tr...

It's great to see the term Reconstruction gain currency for what we need to do next. When we use it, we mean ambitious institutional transformations to shore us up for the future. When people like Larry Summers use it, I assume they're using it in the historically accurate sense of Republican rule

🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.

To the people out of state who keep saying “why won’t the local cops stop ICE” you need to understand that ICE is overwhelmingly the largest force on the ground in Minneapolis. They outnumber Minneapolis cops four to one. They’re more likely to stop the cops than the other way around
The Star Tribune had an insane graphic about the presence of immigration enforcement in Minneapolis. There are more immigration officers in the metro right now than local police officers.
