My mom ADORES AOC because of stuff like this and I think that’s an interesting anecdata point because she generally gravitates towards politicians who are moderate and obsessed with “civility.”

Oh hey, I thought @propublica.org was a legit, credible news outlet. Apparently, I was wrong. Good to know!
1/ At bargaining yesterday, @propublica.org management said that they should have 100% discretion to replace workers with AI and would not commit to labeling future AI-generated content.

Oh look, another dog attack in Portland. Every single week this happens, and yet no one does anything. I've contacted every city agency I can think of and no one cares. It's really bonkers.

As someone who quit speaking to a parent back in the 90s, it was SO MUCH EASIER back then. You just... quit answering the phone or opening their mail. Because of the various ways people can contact you now, it's way, way harder and, unfortunately, people feel they have to explain vs blocking etc.
There's no hard data, so it's impossible to know for sure, but I suspect the number of adult children cutting off their parents isn't significantly higher than it used to be, and what's actually new is that the children are now explaining it in therapy terms rather than simply ceasing contact.

For generations people “cut off” parents by moving away and mailing them a card once a year. Travel and long distance phone calls were expensive; distance effectively cut people off w/o being so explicit.

The difference now is that communication is cheap so cutting them off requires being explicit.

I've been tracking ads for parenting tech for the past year, and this one--that promises to help kids get into "gifted" programs--takes the cake.

It's got fear mongering! And mommy shaming! And it ties itself in knots to insist that "gifted" programs aren't built on the meritocracy myth!

Tis the season where I have to explain to people’s accountants that they don’t have the send W-9s when their clients paid by credit card and then they get big mad because I’m ruining their $100/form grift.

I genuinely think that in terms of commerce AI is going to become so synonymous with scammers that it dominates its public image
I’ve talked about this before but HOO BOY AI is being used to scam countless happy couples. Everything from wedding dresses to bridal makeup to cake designs to florals. Everything you can’t see in person/get a trial or a tasting for is a scammy scam scam.

The selfish, cruel, entitled, garbage parents who hurt their children so badly, it's less painful for us to have no parents at all than it is to keep them in our lives and allow them to keep hurting us are the REAL victims, you see. 🙄

If you want your ACA coverage to be active on January 1, you must’ve enrolled by today. You can enroll up to Jan 15 but then coverage won’t start until February. Meaning they’re asking people to either go without coverage or take a chance on enrolling in a plan they know they can’t afford.
